.018 end loop serving seems to work well on most cams. I' m not sure what you mean by " re-serve both sides of the cable" . If you mean, the other end that attaches to the axels, no you don' t have to serve them if they look to be holding up.

Just tried some of the .018 #62 braid serving for the ends and it looks sharp. Still think 2D (BCY) is tougher and probrably cheaper.
