Kinetic Energy for this setup?
I' m curious if any would know what my kinetic energy would be for this setup:
2003 Hoyt Razortec 435 grain arrows w/broadhead 65 # Draw Weight 26.5 Draw Length I don' t have a way to measure the speed of my arrows and just wondering if I have enough KE to use mechanical broadheads like Spitfires. |
RE: Kinetic Energy for this setup?
My razortec @ 28.5" draw shoots an arrow that heavy @ 280fps. So even if your string is pretty loaded up with stuff, you should still be pushing that arrow around 250fps. That would give you just over 60 # ke.
Even if your speed is 240fps.....you will still have 55.65# ke. Way more than enough to pass through a deer. |
RE: Kinetic Energy for this setup?
Great, thanks for the info.

RE: Kinetic Energy for this setup?
I' m shooting an ' 03 Razortec at the same draw length with a slightly lighter arrow and getting 251 fps--plenty for pass thru' s.

RE: Kinetic Energy for this setup?
Wow! You guys probably think my arrow is REALLY heavy at 490 grains then.[8D]

RE: Kinetic Energy for this setup?
Big Country,
Are you sure about those #' s:) Thats about 78lbs of KE out of 28-1/2" draw[:o] And an approx IBO speed of about 330 fps. I am not even close to that with my 29-1/2" 70lb Patriot. I looked closely at the Razor - if those #' s are real - I bought the wrong bow....LOL:) |
RE: Kinetic Energy for this setup?
Rackattack!
Patriot' s speed should be the same or close to RazorTec. I can tell you my UltraTec is faster than Patriot 2003 with the same set up, but not that much. My 2003 Patriot set 29' at 70 lb shoots 415 grain arrow at 276. I shoot D-loop and peep with no rubber tubing plus two cat wiskers. ACC 360 at 430 grains flies 273 fps. Both set ups give me 70KE. UT shoots with the same speed but set up at 68 lb NOT 70 lb like Patriot. It will be faster in about 3 fps than Patriot. This is with my set up. Any bow might be a little differnet. Tell me how is your Trophy Taker set up on your Patriot. I have really hard time to get it right. Vodek |
RE: Kinetic Energy for this setup?
Nebraska Bow Hunter!
Your speed should be about 250-255 fps. This will give you 60 KE. Vodek |
RE: Kinetic Energy for this setup?
HMMMMMM, I am getting 270 ish with 445 grain arrows at 28.5 inch draw length from my Razortec!!!!!!
I ran Nebraskas numbers through the Archery Program and came up with mid 220' s at 26 1/2 inch draw. Someone' s numbers aren' t adding up!!!!! |
RE: Kinetic Energy for this setup?
Rack, sorry I did not respond sooner. Been busy slinging arrows for a couple of days.
My #`s may have been a tad bit off. I am shooting my razortec at 69 lbs. with a 413 gr. arrow. It is going 289fps. I was just taking a quick guess as to how fast a 435gr. arrow would come out. Another thing, I actually have my razortec maxed out on drawlength, which is 29" . The reason it is set there is because at the 29" setting, it is really only drawing 28 3/4" . I gave the mainstring a few twists and I am @ 28.5" amo. My razortec is 3fps faster with my own strings on it too. 16 strands main and buss, using ultracam by brownell. |
RE: Kinetic Energy for this setup?
You have plenty of ke but imo NOT for spitfires. They require much ke to achieve passthrus with.
You may be able to use a mechanical like the Steelhead from Rocket or some others but imo you need to stay away from Spitfires. |
RE: Kinetic Energy for this setup?
Thanks BC,
Your Razor is smoking my Solo Patriot, and it shouldn' t:( And my 29" module is at 29.75" , I have twisted and untwisted everything and just can' t get this thing to its specs. Performance is suffering it seems. Back to bowtech it goes[:@] |
RE: Kinetic Energy for this setup?
No problem Rack. I love that little bow. I keep telling myself that it is way too short to shoot good, but if I took the scope off of my protec, I doubt I could shoot it any better. Even at long range. The little bugger is a tack driver.

RE: Kinetic Energy for this setup?
Hey Rack Attack........sorry man, I gave you bad info. I hope you did not run out and sell your Bowtech yet!:D
I just got finished setting up a new RazorTec for a guy, same exact specs as mine, only his was right handed. After tuning it up, I put one of my hunting arrows through the chrono....274fps. I could not figure out why it was slower than mine. I mean it has the same base cam, same draw setting, even twisted it to the EXACT drawlength as mine. Same poundage too. After I triple checked it through the chrono with the same results I drug out my lefty RazorTec. Guess what...276fps? I got 289fps with my bow using my old Beman field shafts that I used to hunt with. Still good speed for the setup, but not what I posted previously. I weighed the arrow again to make sure I was giving the right numbers this time. draw length=28.5" draw weight=68# arrow weight=413gr. speed=276fps Sorry for the bad info buddy![:o] |
RE: Kinetic Energy for this setup?
well my new numbers are in !
hoyt ultra tech 31.5. draw, 66 pounds, 30 inch cx 300arrows 370 grains with the 100 grainhead shot 283 with about 68 ke! my alpine same poundage same arrows shot a 272fps 60 ke |
RE: Kinetic Energy for this setup?
hello everyone, since you were talking about ke and I am new to the tech. end of bows I thought I would throw my question into the ring. I am shooting a supertech with the spiral cam and a half set up. My draw length it 29" , the poundage is set right on 70lbs, the arrows weigh 349 grains if I did my math correctly and after I got everything set up and tuned at the pro shop it was sending them through the graph at 300 fps, now I shot a WB rest so I know I am losing a little there but not much. I was wondering what kind of ke I have and how do you figure it? also is there anything to do to fine tune it even more(except change the rest, call me crazy but I love the WB lol) I see you all talk about twisting the string and such..can you explain..email me if need be

RE: Kinetic Energy for this setup?
Hey Rack Attack........sorry man, I gave you bad info. I hope you did not run out and sell your Bowtech yet! Now those numbers make me feel a bit more adequate:D:D My 29" Pat (29.625 - actual amo) is getting 279 from a 397 grn arrow. I feel better now:D and thanks for all the grief;) |
