Are the strings still good?

Purchased a " new" - never fired early 2000 model MQ1 for $299 from a Mathews dealer (I thought it was a great deal - couldn' t pass it up). Do I need to replace the 4 year old zebra strings (dry rot?) on this bow, or just wax them and start shooting?

Since I make my own strings, this would be a no-brainer for me. I would lean towards replacing them due to their age, but maybe Pinwheel12 or Len will jump in with their input!

BTW, great deal on one sweet shooting bow! Might be my favorite Mathews to date, and they sure have made some good shooters.

I' d recommend taking the string off the bow and measuring it. If it hasn' t creeped, I' d wax it good and use it. Three years probably isn' t going to do too much to today' s modern string materials. If it' s 1/2" to 1" too long, I' d replace it. Anything less and I' d twist it to size and keep a watchful eye on it for the first couple weeks.
