These Bow Manufractures Are Getting Out Of Hand

I'm a Mathews fan but come on now, they and the other makers are getting out of hand with the prices

If they think they can get it...they certainly will

sprintflyer 09-18-2010 08:27 PM

And the sad part is our dealer markups have went WAY down. You would be shocked at what we make on a bare bow. That's why shops hope you will set up your new bow with all new accessorys. Not alot of margin there either but every little bit helps.

blackhawk_archery 09-18-2010 09:28 PM

by a cheaper bow and slap a matthews sticker on it you wont ever know the difference

That looks more like a collector's item vs. something that you would hunt with. I agree that the prices are out of hand but that goes with hobbies. The initial startup costs are high but you don't have to get the latest and greatest every year. I do have 2 bows based on needing a backup on where I hunt but I don't feel the need to upgrade every year. I may change a component here or there and may cycle a bow every 4-5 years but am perfectly happy with the bows that I have. Hell, if the indians had the technology that we have today, we would all have different last names!

As with anything, I also understand that there is a price to pay for the technology. You're not just paying for the individual bow, you're paying for prototypes, facilities, utilities, multiple salaries, insurance, etc...

Nice set-up by the way...Mathews, QAD, and HHA. I like your style!

You can buy a rifle with a decent scope that will last your life time and your heirs with a little care for the price you pay for a bow that will be obsolete in a year or two and the resale value is nothing compared with what you paid for it but as long as we keep buying the newest and the fastest, it's what the market will bare.

I agree with the prices of the new top of the line bows are way out there. But my question is how much more can they improve? What i mean is there has to be a point where the materials will reach their stress limit without exploding. Strings, cables, limbs etc. Just think of all the shock these things go through with every shot.

halfbakedi420 09-19-2010 01:56 PM

might as well get a carbon matrix

Don't say these mfg's are getting out of hand, say what you mean! Mathews and Hoyt are out of hand with a $1600.00 and now a $2100.00 bow. But Matt is testing the water to see who is stupid enough to buy one, and someone will. If the interest is high enough next year (2012) will a lot higher. I have seen other companies do this with a high retail and give the dealers a good price to see what price people will pay for something. For example we sold X company scopes at dealer cost. We bought into the wholesale pricing which is 25% off dealer, of course to get that you had to purchase a $1,000,000.00 order. Now some of the box stores get that pricing, and still sell them at MSRP, and people still pay that price. If sales don't go down, the price goes up!

They will sell... The carbon matrix did... I have one, but only bc I shot for a Hoyt dealership;) no way I'd ever pay that for a dang bow.

MBmadness 09-21-2010 03:29 AM

I dont bash any bow company i like all the bows to be honest . But their is always going to be people that feel they have to have the best of everything and if it costs more it must be better . If someone has the money to pull the trigger on a bow like that they either have alot of money or feel like they deserve something special . Me i really like my AXE 6 , and my Bowmadness . Good luck this season every1

demoIL 09-21-2010 04:23 AM

A price like that would keep me from upgrading, that's for sure.

Your right except I know guys who have Matthews bows and they do get a good resale out of them, still not worth the price of a quality fire arm.

Sniper151 09-22-2010 12:53 PM

Until we stop buying at the exaggerated prices, they will continue to increase. Just like pick up trucks. The more a company sponsors, the higher the price on their products. Believe it or not, the most expensive bows are not the best shooting bows.

I agree 100% that prices are getting outrageous... BUT, your claim of buying a cheap bow and throwing a Mathews sticker on it would be like saying to a sportscar owner to ditch his Ferrari, get a Ford Focus and put a Ferrari emblem on it... Pretty sure he would be able to tell.

Its a Custom bow for a niche market, Obv they saw a market for it or they wouldnt have put in the R&D and set up cost to produce it.

If i was hunting Africa and money was no object, i'd take a hard look at one, as it is i have no need for it, but there are those out there that will buy it whether they need it or not.

MBmadness 09-22-2010 05:11 PM

I shoot PSE Madness and Axe 6 . The only thing i found wrong with mathews is the grip was to wide for me . I seemed to torque the bow with their grip , I am sure with time one could get used to it . But the PSE shoot well for me . Their are so many good bow companies out there . PSE , Mathews , Elite , Strothers , Darton , Hoyt , Bowtech and the list goes on . But these bow companies see the guys that deck out there bow that got way more than a grand in to it . And figure there are going to be enough people to buy these bows . Maybe its our own fault ? We do push for them to come out with something new and crazy and faster every year . But this is just my opinion , that i hear is only woth .02 cents . lol

BIGBUCK17 09-22-2010 09:27 PM

I think all these rising prices of bows are bull ****. Thats why i have never bought a brand new bow. If i want current bow, i just buy my friends current year bow at the end of the season for half of what he paid for it so i can have me a new bow and he will go buy him the new latest and greatest bow out, and if i want a new bow the next year ill just buy his from him again. I mean hell 5 years ago i dont remember any bows costing $850,900, or 1600!!!!! Just my 2 cents

Primitive Weapon 09-27-2010 09:09 AM

$2100....holy cow. $800+ for my Maxxis seems like a steal now! lol

blackhawk........You should learn to curb your opinions. A post like this is just like your poaching post. And obviously you don't know much about bows othewise you would have never typed a comment like this

soulless 10-10-2010 09:45 AM

FAIL. I can get me a super awesome rifle setup with that kind of $$$. Mathews bows have always cost more than the others. I live in WI and that's where Mathews Inc. is located. I've never owned one and not planning to.

I go to a Mathews shop to shoot my PSE Omen..lol!

in the end, that $2000+ Mathews bow isn't gonna kill a deer any better than the others.. The true Mathews Fans will buy a couple I bet...
