Compound Bow Help

I just started bow hunting this year for deer but need a little help on sighting my bow. I bought a sight and put it on but I dont know what yardage I should sight my sight pins at? I have a 55 to 60 pound bow

The norm seems to be 20, 30, and 40 yards. For now you don't need more than that even for practice. You could suit yourself and set them for 15, 25, and 35 yards. Keep the pins at 10 yard intervals. For distances in between the pins you can learn to "gap shoot". Pins set at 5 yard intervals tends to clutter up the sight picture too much plus you may pick the wrong pin when you least want to.

If you have more than 3 pins then slide the bottom ones down out of the way for now till you become more experienced. Don't set a top pin for 10 yards. You don't need it. The difference in point of impact with a 20 yard pin is only about 1" higher at 10 yards.

Sometimes if you have a single rail site, where all the pins are touching each other you might have to set the twenty yd and keep walking back until the shot becomes to low, now try your 30, if it is to low also you can now move your whole site bar up until the twenty hits center then take a shot at 30yds and keep it up until both the 20 and 30 yd pins hit center. Maybe I confused myself and you also, what you are trying to do is set your pins that all are hitting the center.

I have a tru glow 3 pin sight for my bow. Dose this mean to set the lowest pin at 20 yards then the middle pin at 30 yards and the top one at 40 yards?

no your top pin is always the shortest yardage and the bottom pin is you longest yardage pin

I tried to sight it for 20 yards but it seems to be not working. I had to move the top pin al the way down to the botom of the sight to get it sighted for 20 yards but i still have to sight it for 30 and 40 and the pins will have to be down even farther. What am I doing wrong?

Sounds to me like you may not be squared up ( meaning your knocking point may not be squared )and the bow may not be set up just right.. feel free to pm and I'll give you my phone number, sounds like more than we can fix over a few post.

Sounds also like you might be anchoring too high on your face . Could you take a pic of yourself at full draw and post it.

I am going to get a new sight and arrow rest this weekend to make sure everything is good because I think my arrow rest might be causing a problem. I will post when I get all the new stuff to look for any tips on how to put this stuff on.
