Hi everyone -
Looking for some info. I am curious to know the speed differences between the BowTech Extreme VFT and the Mathews Legacy. My specs are as follows:

28" draw
70 # pull
shooting Easton 3/60 acc' s with 100 grain tips (total weight 420 grains)
fletched with 3 Easton 4 inch plastic vanes
String contains a " d" loop as a nock and a served in aluminum peep (no rubber tubing)
nothing else will be on the string.

I am trying to compare to see what kind of speeds I will generate with each bow. I booked a Caribou hunt for next year :D:D:Dand have been told to expect shots out to 50 yards. I am looking for a fast but forgiving single cam bow. Please let me know if anyone has any idea' s on speed.

I' m gonna guess about 260 with a Legacy and about 280-285 with the Extreme VFT. You could probably get about 270 with a Mathews LX which is more comparable to the VFT . These are just some guesses, but they should be fairly close for your draw length . Good luck !!

I shoot the same weight and drawlength that you mentioned and I have the legacy. I don' t think the legacy is a very fast bow. My arrows weigh about 436 with a broadhead on them. I switched to a different arrow that weighed 98 grains less and was shooting 273 f/s. I shoot a string loop and have dampeners on my string as well. I know that I picked up speed with the lighter arrows but my old setup is rock solid out to 50 yards. Its not as flat with my heavy arrows but if I use my rangefinder the animal is hit just as precisely.
I don' t know anything about the bowtech bow. I' m guessing it would be faster. I' d shoot both bows and see which one feels the best. There' s a lot more to consider here than speed.

thanks for the answers guy' s. I agree speed is not everything but the legacy just seems slow. I have shot it before and you are right it is a sweet shooter but I am looking for a little more speed. Also how about KE what will each bow generate. I had the formula written down but like always when I need it I can' t find it !!!

According to the archery program, with your set up

Legacy 254 fps

Extreme solo 261 fps

I have played with this program alot and I find the numbers to be off by about 5 fps low.

so I would agree with CBM SC. About 260 from the legacy and 270 from the Extreme.

I shot both bows before buying the legacy. I am shooting a 340 grain arrow with a 29 inch draw and 70 lbs pull and I get about 300 fps. This is what I shoot in the local 3D shoots.

I am hunting whitetails with the heavy CX terminators that weigh in at 460 grains. They shoot 258 fps.

Just a little more info, my Extreme VFT is shooting 306 fps at 70 lbs, 29" , with a Gold Tip Hunter weighing in at 370 grains. I also have been trying a slightly heavier Beman (405 grains) and I' m getting 291. That' s similar to what others are posting I believe.

I would agree that the LX would be more similar to the extreme vft. Keep an eye on your brace height when wishing for a " foregiving single cam bow" both of these are sub 7" , as to where the legacy is ~7 1/2" .

Wouldn' t the legacy compare more to the patriot in brace height, speed and weight?

I have the LX with 29" draw length at 70lbs. I shoot Beman ISC hunters with 100 gr tip. My arrow weighs right at 400 grains and I shoot 277 fps.

In my view, I think the LX and VFT compare more favorably, as would the Legacy and Patriot SC. Brace height alone though doesn' t make a forgiving bow necessarily. For example, my intent when I purchase the VFT was to purchase a Patriot Dual Cam ( almost 8" BH), but upon shooting them side-by-side, I found the VFT just felt better on the ' valley' side of the draw, and that' s more important to me for bowhunting.

The moral of the story: Shoot alot of bows, then make your decision as to what' s best for your needs. In my search, I shot Bowtech (VFT, Patriot DC and SC, Mighty Mite), Hoyt (Razortec, Havotec), Matthews Legacy (LX wasn' t available when I purchased), and PSE Nitro. I bought the VFT and in my view, the Hoyt Razortec was a close second
