RE: Fletching ? - FlexFletch Curl up on ends..??
Yes goat-tuff is a ' super glue' type of adhesive...
I still have a hard time swallowing the ' it' s the acetone' - I just went to the flex-fetch website & found this Do - Use acetone, lacquer thinner, wood alcohol or isopropyl alcohol if it is at least 97% pure. Do - Use a clean 100% cotton cloth. An old T-shirt works great. Do - Place vane in the fletching clamp before cleaning the base. Do - Wrap the cloth around a fingertip and apply a liberal amount of solvent. Do - Rub the base of the vane lengthwise once in each direction. Move finger slightly to use a fresh surface on the return pass. Do - Use a fresh area of cloth and new solvent on each vane. Don' t - Use rubbing alcohol, cotton balls cotton swabs (Q-Tips) or paper towels. They often contain oils and chemicals which interfere with adhesion. Don' t - Smoke near the fletching area. Don' t - Use cloth that has been tumble dried with any of the fabric softener sheets used in dryers. ***So what gives...?? The only thing I can think of is I used a chunk of denim (old blue-jean) is that 100% cotton? (I' m an archery fanatic - I only know what' s gore-tex & what' s not....;)...) and it was dried in the dryer & I' m assuming the DA used a softener...(don' t do the laundry either[:o]) I' m still corn-fused - I thought for sure I was doing it right... My Easton diamond vanes were perfect - but as previously stated - they have an accelerator applied to them that works in conjunction with the super-glue types of glue... I' m headed to see the pro - I' ll let y' all know what he says.. Thanks! |

RE: Fletching ? - FlexFletch Curl up on ends..??
Thanks for the input all...
The ' pro' (old Charlie) thinks it' s the adhesive - and after looking them over good I think I' ll agree - here' s why... Prior to doing the last shaft (of the first 1/2 dozen - yeah - I' m a slow learner[:' (]) I noticed the curl - then did the last shaft with the flex XXX from Bohning (the red tube). That one DID NOT curl the way the other 5 did - and I used acetone on it as well - so it must be the goat tuff... When Charlie finishes my ' good' 6 I' ll use his setup & finish my goofed 6... So - FWIW - I wouldn' t recommend the goat-tuff on the flex fletch vanes... Hope this helps someone else... |
