How do you change the colour of fletchings?

I just got a real good deal on some green fletching but thats the only colour I have and was just wondering how I can mark my knocking feather. Im fletching some shafts up now and tried some bleach but that didn't work and I've tried a magic marker before but that doesn't last long. I was thinking about paint but I'm concerned about odor/weight, but would the odor still be present come september? Any suggestions? Thanks.

Feathers or vanes? If feathers, you can dye them with RIT dye

there should be a bump on one side of the nock. thats the side that always goes out.

Thanks Jim, I'll try it. Using green fletchings I want the brightest colour there is like red or yellow and I'm not sure if I can achieve that so I just may end up dyeing it black, any recommendations?
Josh, I'm aware of the rib on the knock but I can load an arrow faster by having my knocking fletch a different colour than my other two feathers. My eyes can't focus fast enough sometimes and it takes too long to see that rib but that feather being a different colour just stands out to me, especially in low light conditions. I usually do mark my rib side of my knock with a marker also, it just seems so much easier than relying only on that rib in the knock.

Just use an extra fine Sharpie permanent marker. They are the gray ones with the cap matching the color of the marker. When I test my hunting arrows I always number them from 1 to 4 for my quiver and use the sharpie. My buddy likes to write different stuff on the vanes of his arrow and he uses the shapie. Believe me, it won't come off.

Take a gray sharpie and mark your arrow. It shows up well, and will last on the shaft as well. I have been shooting the same color fletchings for a few years now, and am just adapted to nocking the fletch that looks like it should be up... up.

Good luck

Derek
