UPDATE on my pro-shop, GOOD/TERRIBLE Ending!!!
 

Hey guys,

I figured that I would just let all of you know what happened with my pro-shop. Last night my former pro-shops head tech guy (John Sbardella) called my house when I wasn' t home, and I got in to late to call him back. Well, I just gave him a call at his house to see what he wanted and he told me everything that had happened. Here, the owner of the shop just closed the shop down one day, took everything out, including the bows, never payed his employees for their wages, and ran off with a girl. John was the guy that I really liked at the shop because he was honest and was willing to help anyone. Well, he told me that he was a man of his word as far as tuning my bow goes, and, he said that he has every piece of his equipment set-up in the basement of his house, and he also put in a 15 yard range in his basement too. He said that whenever I have the time, to give him a call, and I can go over to his house to get everything set-up for free. He also told me to bring my bestfriend because he wanted to tune his bow (which my best friend didn' t buy from him). He said that he was really sorry for the shop closing and he had no idea about it, and he said that he will help me out any time I ever need anything for my bow. He gave his home phone number, so, I can get in touch with him whenever I need to.

Well, thats the story. It has a great ending in that I found out what happened and this guy is still going to do all my work for me for free, on his own time, in his own house, using his own equipment. The bad thing is that he lost a bow and his un-paid wages.

I can' t say enough about this guy, he is one hell of a nice man, and to call me after what happened with the shop, that had to take a set considerring that he would have known that I was p.o' d.

Well, thats it for now, I gotta go roost some turkeys :D

Sounds to me like that this fellow is a class act.

I personally would not let him get away with charging me zilch for using his own free time to tune a bow.

He may not accept a normal payment, But I' d be sure to take him to dinner, or send some kind of " Thank-You" his way.

People like that are hard to come by.

I agree with JeffB he could probably use the cash but might accept a fine bottle of wine or gift certificate to a popular restaurant in the area. Sounds like a person you want to make friends with. Treat him right and He' ll reciprocate.

I totally agree with Jeff on this.The guy is a quality individual and should be rewarded.Even if he is just doing what he feels is the right thing to do.

I have helped people out in a similar fashion and not asked for compensation and makes me feel great but from time to time it is nice to see a 12 pack sitting in the front seat of my truck.[8D]

He did the right thing and you should do the same.

He guys,

O, don' t worry, I was planning on leaving the guy some cash to helping me out. He is always willing to help any archer out, so, I figured the least I could do would be to help him out. Not only that, but, I am thinking of inviting him out to my " honey hole" this fall and see if he can get one of the big boys running around.

Like I have said, this guy is top-notch and I can' t say enough about him. He is one of the nicest guys ever.

Any Pro-shop owner out there looking for a good employee. This guy sounds like the kind of person anyone would want working for them.

I can see losing the unpaid wages you can make that up somehow but losing your Bow, That sucks!

He seems like quality people and you need to give him the link to this board. We could use people like him around here! ;):)[:-]

This guy fits my definition of an archery professional to a " T" . Responsible and selfless. You are lucky to have him Jason. Definitely give him something in return....the gift certificate to a local restaurant sounds like a great idea.

I am really lucky. This guy is great. I will definetly find something for him. A gift certificate sounds better than money. Like I said, I might even invite him to come out here and hunt my honey hole.

I can' t wait to see his face when he shoots the bow. He was amazed at the lack of recoil and noise from his 03 Patriot, well, he will flip when he sees that this bow is equal or even better than that, with a shorter, lighter, and faster bow :D I told him about my strings and he said that we will replace those, put on the two speed nocks 4" from the bottom cam, put in my string leechs (I have decided to use them, who cares about 4 f.p.s. loss when it will help quiet the bow down even more than it already is. Then, he said that he has a bunch of other parts and accessories laying around that we can put on to test and see how they work. He said that we are gonna do alot of tinkering to get the bow tuned as best as it possibly can be (he was mentioning something about putting a bow in a vise and using three different axis to tune, plus he said that we will try to see what all we can do to get the bow the absolute most quiet and shock free as possible (its going to be hard to improve as it is now), and still get the absolute most speed out of it.

I can' t wait to get this done, its gonna be sweet whenever I have it done. The more I talk about this guy, the more and more I am impressed. My pro-shop from last year was good, but, now it looks terrible compared to what this guy is willing to do and on his own time.

HOW do you know that " two speed nocks 4" from the bottom cam" is the right place and right weight???

Consider what the average cost/hour is for auto mechanics wages in your area. Then use that when determining what he' s worth. Remember, he doesn' t have the overhead (rent, insurance, inventory, utilities), but does have the expertise.

BowTech' s manual for my bow says that two nocks (I call them speed nocks because they are placed on the string for speed) should be placed 4" from the bottom cam when the string is replaced.

I ain' t gonna go stingy on the guy. My feeling is that he hasn' t cut any corners with me, so I shouldn' t with him.

The reason I question the weight and position is that by varying the location, as well as the weight, you can sometimes hurt your speed a lot more than help you. With that in mind, you' d better be absolutely sure of the exact datum (point from which you start) and the exact type of nocks (red ones weigh more than black ones).

Len' s right and BowTech uses Red ones for the speed nocks under the shrink tube.
