Speed balls
What the heck are they and what do they look like? Anyone got a pic of one?
Thanks Ed |
RE: Speed balls
They were a item that came out several yrs ago. They are offered by T.R.U. and called accelerator balls. All they are is around ball you attach to your string. They claim when placed on a string, and moved up or down on your bowstingit willincrease your speed.
Personally I think they're a big farse, and haven't heard of many saying they work. I don't see how anything placed on your string will increase speed. Its a known fact anything you do put on your string will decrease speed. |
RE: Speed balls
It is actually a known fact that on many cam designs, in the right position they will reduces string oscillation, and thus noise and get ya couple or three FPS.
If they did not work why do so many bow companies have shrink tubed nocksets near the cam/cams? It takes alot of experimenting and a chronograph though- some bows will never see a gain, and once in awhile you'll find one that picks up a surprising amount of speed. the old Martin Fury did that- tons of string Oscillation- Picked up 11 FPS using the old rubber "speed demons" about 1.5 inches from each cam lobe. |
RE: Speed balls
Well I have done a little research on the speed ball thing. Jeff, you are correct once again. I was wondering about them when I replaced the string on my 08 allegiance. So after some research I found that they can be just plain ole brass nocks. I saw something under some heat shrink on my old string and decided to check it out. It was infact brass nocks, two on each end for the Ally. I first shot through my chrono without them. Then I measured where they were on the old string. Next I carefully removed them and reinstalled them on my new string, applied some heat shrink, and shot through my chrono again. I increased my speed by four FPS.
I just got a 101st and noticed that it has three on each end of the string. When I replace the string, I will make sure to replace them in the same location. Hey, every bit helps! Ed |
RE: Speed balls
We put some new strings on an Xforce 7 at the shop and figured we would do some experimenting with the brass nocks. we started out at 280 and ended up at 289 by adding 6 total to the string. Im not sure if it made it any quieter or not b/c that bow is litterally whisper quiet. Its a freak of nature. It is for real one of the quietest bows ive ever heard.

RE: Speed balls
Speed balls Do work. I have used rubber eliminator buttons in multiples to do the same thing. Tune them in with a Chrono and tie them in.;)

RE: Speed balls
Dan, I have noticed that the strings on both my bows have eliminator buttons on them.I have been comtemplating if I should put them back on as well.
