**So, How's my form? UPDATED** PG 1
Haven't posted one of these for a long time! With my new bow, I feel a heck of alot more comfortable shooting it.
How does it look? ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The only thing I want to point out, is if it seems I'm leaning back, I really don't think I am- I'm just scrawny, and so my shirt pulls back when I draw giving it the look that I'm leaning. Didn't really change anything, just took another picture wearing a beater instead of a sweatshirt. I figured it would help clear up the lean/shirt issue. What do you think? ![]() |
RE: So, How's my form?
I think there's too much tension on the tubing of your peepsight, it looks like it's pulling on the string. And you need to change your handposition on the bow, no fingers sticking out. Try to rotate your hand with your elbow sticking out horizontally, in this little youtube movie, you'll have to watch untill 2.54min, the chubby guy has a perfect grip in my opinon.

RE: So, How's my form?
You are leaning,or you have your hips pushed forward,(the 2nd pic clearly shows it)it is not just your shirt. They don't come any scrawnier than me and I don't look like that.
Work on it in front of a mirror,it will feel like you are leaning forward at first but you will get used to it in short order. ![]() |
RE: So, How's my form?
I ain't no pro by any means, but I think it looks pretty decent. I don't see anything wrong with keeping the fingers extended like that if it reminds you not to "grip" the bow but rather let it rest in your hand.
|
RE: So, How's my form?
The fingers extended creates tension which is never a good thing. An open hand with tension creates more torque than a closed hand without tension.
The biggest issue I see is that there are a couple different grips in the pics. |

ORIGINAL: TFOX [:@] Dang TFOX, didn't mean to make ya mad, buddy- lol. So I messed around with the "leaning" a bit, and you're right, I feel like I'm leaning forward alot- but I guess if that's how it's supposed to be then I'll keep doing it and make myself get used to it. |

RE: So, How's my form?
My grip is a closed but relaxed grip.I can't use the prefered grip by many because it causes pain in my hand if I do.So I have found a happy medium that doesn't cause any torque.;)

Wow, everyone just give up on me?

RE: So, How's my form?
Nah...:) You want to get your upper body straight. It will feel like you're leaning forward at first, but you'll get used to it. You want your weight distributed evenly to both feet. Play with your stance, make it comfortable. I like my feet placed just slightly wider than my hips. Standing straight up may alter your anchor point slightly, you may need to fine tune your peep location once you get settled in your form.
If you can, go shoot at an indoor league someplace. Find the good shooters, and have them work with you. You're very close to nailing it down. Keep the tension out of the grip, don't lean back, and keep you back elbow up where it is, and things will fall in place. And don't forget the follow thru, it's got just as much to do with form as anything. Squeeze the trigger, focus on the target, don't take your eyes off of it till the arrow hits, and let the bow do what it wants after the release. Don't lower that bow down till after you hear that arrow hit. And don't look for that arrow in flight!! Worst habit to get into! ORIGINAL: englum_06 Wow, everyone just give up on me? |

Not good , Your grip has been addressed above , you are leaning way back , and your release forearm is pointing toward the ground , it should be in line with your arrow shaft

Hey thanks for the tips man! You are right in saying that all that counts is where the arrows go. I'm confident enough in my shooting that I don't shoot at the same spot twice any more. Ive only been shooting for a year but I've got two robin hoods and blew the knock-ends off on three other arrows. I learned that I didn't like replacing my XT's that often. And trust me, I eat, and eat, and eat,and eat. I just can't putany mass on, lol. |

Just teasin' ya a little, it'll all work out in time, I had a hard time gaining weight until I had money to eat, and a job that stopped me from being "on-the-go" all the time, now I'm just plain FAT. :D A couple RH's for a guy only shooting a year is pretty good, LOTS of guys will shoot MANY years before they ever shoot one, and many more will NEVER shoot one. Now try to stay away from shooting groups too much, so it saves you a little money. But seriously, the form looks pretty good, and again, it "doens't have to be PERFECT to be a good archer." |
RE: So, How's my form?
You will see a LOT of pro's with this grip right here.

Or a variation of it. The reason,it is repeatable andit createsvery little torque.;) |
RE: So, How's my form?
I've never thought too much about my grip. I'm trying to find a good picture of it.
Give me a few :D EDIT: Honestly, I couldn't find a good picture of my grip. |
RE: **So, How's my form? UPDATED** PG 1
Found some of me too. Might be flawed. Who knows. It looks funny on both of them to be. The camo bow has no shelf so it makes it funny. The silver bow, I'm not sure thats a good picture of it. Looks like it has tension.
![]() ![]() More grip pictures from the industry's best ;) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() And finally, probably the best aimer/shooter right now ![]() As you can see, not even the Pro's do everything text book. Within reason, grip and form, as long as it's repeatable, is ok. Within reason though, you can't be giving the bow a death grip. I also took all these pictures :D Well other than the ones of me.;) |
