temperature effect on limbs

At our Club range we were talking about shooting on the outdoor range. The temperature was minus 20 degrees celcius or about minus 5 degrees farenheight. One person stated that he would be afraid of breaking his limbs at such cold temperatures. What is the coldest temperature that limbs can stand?

This is a good question. I have watched guys on shows hunting in the Artic at 30-40 below with bows and no problems. Who knows, interesting question though.

It is a good question. I don't have an answer. I've hunted down to -1 degree before with a bow (it was Thanksgiving morning, 1993- jeebus it was cold) and I drew my bow several times that morning just to "work them" a bit cos I was worried about noise. The bow had steel cables and creaked a bit, but the limbs seemed fine.

These aren't old wood limbed bows we're talking about. If you're out in it, the bow is fine.

I was hunting earlier this year and it was 0 degrees and I took a practice shot at a piece of trash I was going to pick up when I got down to see if i had clearance with so many layers on. When I shot my limbsavers went flying off my bow lol.

I guess the glue got too brittle in the cold temps.
