throwit,

when you go try out some bows, try out a Darton Maverick Express, or the Rampage Express. The c/p/s cams from Darton draw very smooth and both of these bows are right around 38" axle to axle. I think they would be a good choice for a finger shooter.

Have you ever shot with fingers before? If not, you may be facing a world of frustration trying to learn how to finger shoot for the first time, on a compound bow.

I' d bet the majority of guys like me that started shooting in the in the 80' s were probably starting with fingers and a compound. I' d say it is less common for someone to go from release to fingers. Let' s not discourage him.

If Arthur gets ahold of him he' ll have him shooting a coumpound with wheels and no sights with his fingers.

I too recommend looking at bows around 40" +, if you have a really long draw, maybe even longer ATA.

Naw, Chief. I' d let him keep the wheels.

Until the early 90' s, the vast majority of all archers shot fingers. A bunch of us didn' t even use sights. It' s not nearly as hard to do as a lot of people have been brainwashed into believing. You can get very good at it.

My bow is the Hoyt ProTec, LXPro limbs and Accuwheels. I would also like the Reflex Caribou and the Scepter and Cougar Elite, both from Martin. I like wheels or mild cams for fingers, but I' ve been very impressed by Hoyt' s Cam 1/2 system. I think it would work very well for a fingers bow. The lower the letoff, the easier it is to shoot with fingers. 50% is excellent but not very available these days. 65% is about as high as you should go. Much more than that, it' s too easy to torque the string and get bad arrow flight and rotten accuracy.

By the way, last 30 target 3D shoot I competed in that scored 10-8-5, I shot a 260 from the orange stakes, fingers/barebow. I' m good at it, but there are some guys that are absolutely unblelievable.

That really is amazing Art. That score would put you in the running around where I shoot, against the open shooters even. We have some really challenging target settings though, as most probably do. They don' t give you a clean shot at the ten ring on a 3rd of the targets at these shoots. Most guys are doing great if they don' t miss a target.

But that is great shooting!

Well, I have to admit, I did miss a target. Probably the easiest shot on the range. Small feeding deer sitting right there at 20 yards and I flat missed, wide right. Don' t know if the arrow came off my rest or if I just lost concentration... But I' ve been known to miss with sights and release too.

I used to shoot strictly fingers and if I still did the bow I' d buy today would be the Mathews Icon. Smooth!

Don' t forget the Merlin Max 3000 long-limb, or Supernova. Both bows offer a wide range of cam, limb, and other options, and are some of the finest built bows made anywhere. The Supernova would be a finger-shooters' dream...
