I found that I had fletching clearance issues whenever any one of the feathers were pointed down within about a 20° range from being perfectly vertical. I was not using my limb driver for these test. I used the QAD Ultra HD. This caused me to conclude that by orienting the cock fletch up, there would be more room for the fletchings to clear the arm. Make sense? It seems its real critical for guys with quikspins, and blazers and other wider blades. You got to love feathers because it doesn't mean anything to them. |

The reason he probably recommended cock fletch out is that BowTechs are notorious for tight cable clearance. With the fletch out it gives the maximum clearance past the cables and should still clear through the rest fine but you should always powder the rest and check for contact on any rest (other than a WB). Nothing will drive you over the edge of sanity quicker than trying to tune a bow with undiscovered fletching contact.

That tends to be a problem with blazers due to their high profile design. In that case, I would orient them in a way that they would be able to clear the cables. That is very important.

What I found with my QAD is that there is clearance issues with Blazers. Even with the shorter launcher Blazers will contact the top crossbar with the cock vane pointed straight up. You can see this if you place an arrow on the rest backwards and hold the rest in the full upright position as if you were ready to fire. Align the arrow with the nocking point on the string and you can spin the arrow with the vanes under the crossbar. The contact with Blazers is minimal and arrow flight seemed fine. What made me suspicious was arrow speed. I was getting 245 fps with my old whisker biscuit before I switched to the QAD, in the meantime I bought a new bitzenberger and started fletching my own arrows. I borrowed a chrono from a friend and when I checked I thought it was strange that Blazer speed had dropped to less than 230 fps when I thought that it was supposed to increase with a drop away rest. Then I tried some other arrows, one had 3" quickspins and the other had 4 blazers and they both got 250 fps, that's when I discovered the clearance issue with Blazers shot with cock vane up. If the arrows was rotated just a little arrow speed went back up. I switched to the 3" quickspins and haven't had a problem since.

ORIGINAL: SwampCollie I haven't had any clearance issues on mine, or any of the three dozen or so I routinely see that I have set up. I've installed probably well over 150 of things and I've had only isolated cases where fletching contact was occuring. It was usually with Hoyts, or with bows that had other issues. |

I currently shoot an 04' tomkat with an ultra-rest and as you may or may not remember i was going absolutely nuts the beginning of the year because i could not get this thing tuned in. After reading some of these posts and doing some fiddling myself. I figured out that the 2" quickspins i went to this year were contacting the plastic "retention" arm above the rest ! THANK gOD ! i finally figured it out. !!!!!!!!!!!!
While doing some shooting this fall i adjusted it down closer to the prongs on my ultra-rest, which was the reason i came close to throwing my bow as hard as i could at the garage floor several time. Life is good now !!!! Think im gonna stick with this when my admiral gets here. |

I shoot a QAD and shoot Blazers vane up. I took my cross bar off my QAD because I thought I was have clearence problems and wasnt. I just kept it that way.
