Random questions?

This is just a post for random questions. We seem to have a little group discussion throughout the day between a few of us so if you have any questions feel free to post. I will start.

I was out shooting my BH's today and realized I might be getting some cable contact with the blazers through the hostage pro (can't wait to get the QAD on). So should I think about changing vanes? Go with my mechanicals to mask the problem for now until i get a rest with more clearance?

Stick: I saw you post about camo dipping -- check this out http://www.h2oimaging.com/files/QuickSiteImages/QS_index_bg.gif

A guy had his whole bow dipped in predetor camo (i will try to get the pic up but it says its its too large)

RE: Random questions?

You need to move your rest over so the blazers do not hit. It is not the blazers and the marquis has rollers instead of a slide so that cannot be the problem. I think it is the rest. Have you paper tuned?

Just shrink it.

No i hate paper tune. Some fly good some don't. Now that I think about it -- it might just be a nocking index problem.

Yeah but then you can't see it -- i will see how big a file I can pm you

RE: Random questions?

File way too big -- pm me your email so I can send it thought that. You wont regret it -- this is one bad looking bow

I tried that link for the dipping site, and it didn't work. check it and post it again.

Once you move it over, you should paper tune to make sure that it is not way off. It would be a waste to paper tune now because the blazer would knock it off course.

That is amazing. I can hardly wait to have mine done in Mossy Oak Obsession. It would be the coolest looking bow ever.

NO kiddin --- that why i went with the b-stinger too -- they had the camo to match my bow -- i want to get my string tame, rest, sights, and cams dipped -- that would be awesome in hardwoods grey

RE: Random questions?

I had some problems with the blazers adn cable contact with my general. it sucks with the hostage b/c you really dont have alot of options. tbh, my blazers would hit sometimes on my general but it still shot consistantly. maybe just a little tail at first but it evened itself out.

my suggestion (other than your rest change) would be to try out the 3d duravanes. i shoot both, blazers, 3" 3d duravanes, and the 2.3" 3d duravanes. they all shoot super consistant, the duravanes just have less clearance issues. also being a lower profile vane, they are less likely to hit a tree limb or something like that while hunting. just my .02

Maybe it is the blazers.

drock: How are the 3d -duravanes work as far as fletching with helical and stabilizing a broadhead? I can't go full helical with this rest -- but when I get my new QAD you bet your sweet azz i am getting all my arrows with helical

I am going to switch back to straight in order to help maintain speed at longer distances.

FSUBIGMAC 11-19-2008 01:16 PM

RE: Random questions?

yeah i think it is the blazers because my 20 and 30 impact the same (no left/right problems) which is telling me my centershot is close enough. The cables on the cable guard and the blazers barely miss touching. -- I think i am just going to go with my mechanicals for the rest of the season and get everything tip top -- I am newish to archery and just learned all this tuning stuff after the hunting season started so i def was not prepared.

drockw 11-19-2008 01:17 PM

RE: Random questions?

BS, it was definately the blazers causing the string contact.

FSU, mine are all full helicles. i dont shoot anything else. i care more about the quality of arrow flight more that a little speed or whatever. i shot full helicles through my wb too, and shot 3d (hunter class)with the wb and it still did fine. I i were you and wanted to use them for your hunting arrows, i would get the 3" or 4" 3d duravanes (probably the 4") the 4" will provide even more stability and more air friction to make the arrow spin better and stabilize a bh better. i use the 3" mainly and they are great with my victory arrows.

btw, that bow is freaking sick lookin. i would love to have mine done like that. it would be easy for mine too b/c its already all black.

The first thing you need to figure out is are you or aren't you? Don't amputate the wrong limb here or you could make things a lot worse and open up lots of new problems.

What is it exactly that lead you to think this is the issue? Black crap on the cable side hen feather? Details... details...

Also... is the problem constant? Or is it just once in a while? Always consider the you factor. Inconsistant grip/bow torque can definately be a candidate in this catagory.... gripping the bow tight or snatching it at the shot will cause the riser to roll right... and put the cables much much closer to your vanes as they pass.

RE: Random questions?

Straight should be fine for 3d but i don't recommend it for hunting. I had a lot of trouble getting straight fletch to control the broadhead. I put offset on and its much better(when i don't get contact)

FSUBIGMAC 11-19-2008 01:19 PM

RE: Random questions?

I don't recommend straight for hunting -- doesn't control fixed blade very well. I had a heck of a time. I got refletched with offset and VIOLA. Flying true (when no contact).

Ah yes... I know where that shop is... or should I say whose shop that is.... some right nasty stuff comes out of there... and I mean nasty good.... infact nasty as in about as good as it could ever possibly get nasty.

FSUBIGMAC 11-19-2008 01:34 PM

RE: Random questions?

Yep... that would be a one Mr. Crackers shop. So want that guy to tune my bow -- but he does have a unbeleivably long wait.

I have done the lipstick trick but i might try it again. It just doesn't make sense that one would hit true and the other flies all over the place. I can def see a difference in arow flight sometimes it corkscrews sometimes it doesn't. My centershot was set by lazer -- I know this is just a starting point. Like I said I was late to the party on fine tuning. I am half thinking of hangin up the bow for hunting this season and getting out the crossbow until I get this thing finetuned

Black Stick 11-19-2008 01:39 PM

RE: Random questions?

I am getting on that waiting list. I will have the only all Obsession bow!

I was thinking that the straight would be better for a distance shot at an Elk out west. It would be important to keep that speed up for a 90 yard shot.

I wonder if that bow has invelvet. That would be ideal.

FSUBIGMAC 11-19-2008 02:05 PM

RE: Random questions?

Ok so I just went out and shot. I altered my nock alignment and they all seemed to not corkscrew. Not all my shots were dead on but again we are having high winds and its cold as heck out there... but for the most part they all hit a about 1 -2 inches low.

FSUBIGMAC 11-19-2008 02:06 PM

RE: Random questions?

So here is my plan after the season: New strings, drop away, walk back and then broadhead. Anything else I should look for. I know about the bow specs and what not after the string gets put on.

drockw 11-19-2008 02:10 PM

RE: Random questions?

sounds like you will be good after that. the strings should improve your consistancy as well and the overall feel of the bow.

FSUBIGMAC 11-19-2008 02:16 PM

RE: Random questions?

Yeah i noticed the facotry strings don't do much for peep alignment -- I am always having to give my peep a 1/4 turn. I have been half temped to go back to a peep with tubing.

Black Stick 11-19-2008 02:20 PM

RE: Random questions?

I'm thinking about it too, but then I loose a lot of speed.

drockw 11-19-2008 02:21 PM

RE: Random questions?

i had to turn my peep on ocasion at first but i dont anymore. tbh, my general's string seemed to be really good about not twisting. it stayed in pretty good condition as far as stretching but i shot the crap out of it and it started getting worn.

FSUBIGMAC 11-19-2008 02:26 PM

RE: Random questions?

Why would you loose speed with new string? I have heard that new string often add a little speed?

Black Stick 11-19-2008 02:32 PM

RE: Random questions?

It can go either way. It's a weight issue.
