advantages to a longer ata are in stability/accuracy. the string angle is less dramatic as which makes the pinch less. A longer ATA will give you a more stable hold on your bow. of course this is subjective to different people and some people could certainly do better with shorter bows. but in theory, longer ata is better for shooting. i owned a general and i can tell you first hand, that i can shoot more consistantly with my 101st. hitting an x is hitting an x but with a longer bow, most can do better.

short ata is nice for hunting and there is no argument there.

btw, im 6'3" and about 260#'s and the short or long has never made a difference to me in that aspect. i shoot a 29.5" draw with a d loop.

'Taller' bows are known to be....for lack of a better term....More Forgiving. But I shoot a Martin Cheetah which is 30.5" ATA and I shoot much better with it then I did with my bear which was 34"ATA. The bear was really old though. I am 6'3" as well and shoot a 30" draw with a loop.

You must have either a super long d-loop or short arms to not be at least a 30" DL.

I have a short d loop, and my arms are relative to my height lol! Its called anchor point man! i dont anchor with my hand behind my head. ive shot a 31" draw before and could barely hold it back cuz the string was past my nose and almost in my eye lol! I put the tip of my nose on my string w/out bringing my head down at all. Slight bend in the bowarm, just enough to not slap. how tall are you blackstick? Isuppose i need to take a pic of my form now that ive been busted for being a freak of nature lol!

No, that's ok. Funny stuff. I'm 5'11" and that string is right on my nose, promise. However, I do have longer arms, not quite as bad as Phelps, but they are long. My little brother is 6'2" and has a 30" draw. Sorry about that last comment.

No man! no apologies necesarry lol! It is pretty funny to think about. maybe i need to measure my arm span to make sure im proportioned accordingly[&:] I could be seriously deformed :(

My dad islike 6'5" and he shoots the 31" draw adn i dont see how he does it. It makes my bicep cramp up trying to get it back all the way. where my bows let off, his 80# high country is at full poundage and its tough!!!

^ no doubt. Hes fixing to have shoulder surgery so there is no way hes gonna be able to shoot it after that imo. he says he will be fine but i call bs on him. i told him he needs to get a 50-60# newer bow cuz it would still be plenty fast and easier to draw. his royal hunter shotaround 290like 4 years ago. and that was with 15 year old technology lol!

Well that is the other advantage to speed bows. You can shoot them at a lower poundage and still get decent speed. That's a good plan. I was just thinking that he could really get a lot out of an 80# tuned x-force.

Once he goes out and shoots a NEW parallel limb 60# bow that will shoot faster than that "antique" he may be SOLD!!!! Some guys, myself included for a time, thought they had to have HE-MAN Bows, 80# because REAL MEAN shoot heavy bows. I do still shoot 70, but I'm also a big guy 6' 240-ish, but I CAN shoot an 80-90# bow couldn't get the 100#-er back though, as it just felt too tough. My next bow will be a moderate speed 60#-er though, as I'm getting too damn old to shiver in a tree, then try to draw a bow. Speaking of, I have a date.......
