Which bow, Mathews/Hoyt/Bowtec?
Hello all, I' m new to this forum world and was just curious on your input. Im shooting 53# with a 28" draw and was wondering what bow i should buy this spring. Im Really looking at these 4 bows.
Mathews LX Mathews Legacy Hoyt CyberTec BowTec Patriot Please give me your input on which bow you guys have tested performed the best. I am going to the shop next week to demo the LX and CyberTec. |
RE: Which bow, Mathews/Hoyt/Bowtec?
Just a couple weeks ago, I was facing this same dilemma. I shot the Patriot Dually, the Mathews Legacy, both the Hoyt Dynatec and Razortec and a Darton bow. I finally chose the Hoyt Razortec because--to me--the draw felt the smoothest and I liked most everything I had read and heard about this bow. I haven' t been disappointed!

Thank you, I am shooting them next weekend so hopefully i can make my decision then.

RE: Which bow, Mathews/Hoyt/Bowtec?
Three more " must trys" to add to your list--
Merlin Lite Storm 2 with Omega Hybrid cam--offers best of CPS and Cam.5, Sweet. Kodiak Outdoors Bowlogic 32 or 36----Best new " pure" hunting bow of 2003 IMHO. Diamond Machete----True " sleeper" of the industry. Low shock and recoil, fast. After having tested all of the bows above and the ones you' ve mentioned, all three of these above can easily wrestle with the other " popular" bows you mentioned, and IMHO either come out ahead or at least tied with them also. Have fun trying them all, I love that part!;) Good shooting, Pinwheel 12 |

RE: Which bow, Mathews/Hoyt/Bowtec?
My preference is definitley the Hoyt, I shoot the razortec, but the cyber and the ultratec are also very popular, smooth, accurate and fast. try them all and get the one that feels most stable to you. that way you will shoot your best.

RE: Which bow, Mathews/Hoyt/Bowtec?
Decisions, decisions????
What are you using the bow for? I personally LOVE my Legacy, I know the LX is a little faster, but the one I shot had a little vibration to it. I' ve only shot a couple of Hoyts and the two brands of bows felt very different to me. I would have to go with a Legacy, but I might be biased. Good Luck on your decision, let us know of your choice. J. Shoot [:-] |
RE: Which bow, Mathews/Hoyt/Bowtec?
hunt, with your draw length & weight, a Patriot Dually will allow you to shoot a fairly heavy arrow, and still have some speed (if that' s a consideration). Mine at 55#, 29" draw shoots a 368 gr arrow 288. I intend to experiment with heavier arrows over the summer. Just think, I can shoot an arrow over 400 gr and still get 260-270 at 55#. I can live with that.;)

RE: Which bow, Mathews/Hoyt/Bowtec?
I think the others sort of hinted at what I am going to say about your issue. Each bow not only has its own individual feel but also a specific area or areas that it might " perform" slightly better in when compared with the other models in question.
For example, the Bowtech model probably is the fastest of the bunch with good inherent accuracy levels due to its riser/limb configuration as well as its brace height but I do not think I would classify it as the smoothest drawing...:) On the other hand you have the Hoyt and the Mathews which draw smoother but do not generate as much speed. There are always trade-offs. What you need to ask yourself is what is your main priority or priorities and which bow feels best to you. Sorry I could not help more...but I do not think you can really " go wrong" with any of the bows in question. |
RE: Which bow, Mathews/Hoyt/Bowtec?
I was under the impression that these were to be primarily used for hunting purposes----I wouldn' t want to try to shoot any kind of " serious" tournament with any of the above models. JMHO. Pinwheel 12

RE: Which bow, Mathews/Hoyt/Bowtec?
The bow' s primary use is hunting. I will be shooting a 3-d leauge in the summer but nothing serious. Thanks all for the input

BowTech patriot. Hands down.

RE: Which bow, Mathews/Hoyt/Bowtec?
I' m with Pinwheel...none of those are the best choices as a double duty hunting/3D bow.
In the Bowtech line l' d look at the PRO 38 SC or the P40 DC for a decent compromise. In the Mathews line I' d look at the Icon and Q2XL And for Hoyt the UltraTec XT2000. Pro38 SC will probably be the best compromise as it still skips an arrow out ther e right quick, has a good brace (7 3/8" ) but is a touch shorter (despite it' s model designation) than the Ultra and Mathews offerings. Shoot ' em all, make your choice. |
RE: Which bow, Mathews/Hoyt/Bowtec?
The 3-d is for fun, nothing worth spending extra money on a bow for... most these guys are like 40 shooting with there $300 bows
|
RE: Which bow, Mathews/Hoyt/Bowtec?
Doesnt matter how old you are ...And how much your bow cost...It' s if you can shoot it or not..:D.....What good is a $600 dollar if you cant shoot..;)
|
RE: Which bow, Mathews/Hoyt/Bowtec?
i dont care how good of a shooter you are..... with the low speed and long distance shots, any little thing can play a factor... if you can shoot and have a nice bow, your gunna out perform.
|
RE: Which bow, Mathews/Hoyt/Bowtec?
So your saying a new high dollar bow is going make you a better archer than a guy with an old bow???? Come on..Granted a newer bow has alot of advantage' s...But if you can' t shoot it' s not going to help one bit....You take any top world archer today and he still could compete with a older slower bow...It' s not how fast the bow can put it there...But how will the archer behind the string send' s it there...

RE: Which bow, Mathews/Hoyt/Bowtec?
Check out the BowTech Tec 29 and the Mighty Might. The wife' s 29 shoots better for her than anything she' s had in the last 19 years, heck she' s almost as good as me;). At 26 inches draw and a 335 grain arrow it does 254 fps and that bow is the quietest bow we have in the house. She loves the draw stop peg and the 65 percent let off I have it adjusted to. Check out as many bows as you can and you' ll find the one that likes you the best.

RE: Which bow, Mathews/Hoyt/Bowtec?
If the bow is going to be used mostly for hunting with " some" 3D thrown in then I think the Patriot is probably the best choice of the ones you listed.....though I do agree with Jeff that a slightly longer axle to axle model would be more ideal for a " serious" 3D bow.

RE: Which bow, Mathews/Hoyt/Bowtec?
BOWTECH DEFINITELY

RE: Which bow, Mathews/Hoyt/Bowtec?
Bowtech Patriot, I love my ' 02, and love the ' 03 grips a WHOLE LOT more!!!!!!!!! This year Bowtech also put the Patriots on a diet, and made them balance better. I would vote ' 03 Patriot dually, but each to his own.
