Speed Nocks
 

Can anyone give me some info on speed nocks for your string. After talking to the tech guy at Alpine Archery he says that my Silverado would tune better if I installed speed nocks on the string. I started to look into it and I cant find anything. Who makes these? Who sells these?

Speed nocks are in most cases just a few (3 or 4) brass nocks crimped on the string about 2-3" below the cams. TruBall makes some weights they call "speed balls" that are screwed together rather than crimped on.

The biggest thing with speed nocks is that you need to find the "sweet spot" where you will pick up speed. Just crimping them on and winging it may actually slow your bow down.

You need to start with the nocks attached to the string by both cams. Shoot a couple of arrows through the chrono then move the nocks in one direction or the other by about 1/8". Shoot through the chrono again.
Keep doing this until you find that sweet spot where the bow speed peaks out.

If you are using crimp on nocks, remove the string and slide a piece of heat shrink over them and shrink it. This will keep them from flying off if they loosen up.

In my experience, the gain you get from speed nocks (3-5 fps) has never been worth the hassle of getting them in exactally the right place. Too much futzing around for too little gain.

Most strings that are made or come on a specific bow will already have weight on the string in the most useful places that will mazimise that speed. I monkied around with those speed balls for the better part of a day and couldn't get the High Country to do anything more than what it already did. It has three nocks on top and three on bottom under shrink tube... I suspect they figured it out already.

how about when you change out your factory strings for new ones? can you move those factory weights onto your new strings?? they seem pretty tight.

Just place the two strings next to each other and crimp the nocks on the new string, slide some shrink wrap on the nocks and you are good to go! I don't like using the old ones, but to each their own! Remember that if the mfg placed 3 use only 3, if more use more.
