Another Cracked Limb on my Bowtech Pro 38 ****UPDATE*****
well i was just in my backyard shooting the new arrows i made (just put quikspins on) and i noticed that i was shooting low with the new arrows. both from 20 and 30 yards. i was grouping very well but they were going a couple inches low.
so on my 20th or so arrow, at full draw i heard a distinct snap come from my bow. i quickly let down and inspected and found a large piece of limb cracked off on the lower limb. now this is the second time since having the bow (bought it new in 2003) that i had a problem with the limbs. it always seems to happen right before the season too. now i have to go to a dealer and see if i can get some new limbs. i will try and post pics but it looks like the limbs is about to fold in half. i think i lucked out with not having the bow blow up in my face at full draw. |
RE: Another Cracked Limb on my Bowtech Pro 38
Do they cover the repairs?
Hopefully your season is still relatively far enough away to get you set up and ready. Matthews Lifetime Warranty is reason enough to take a look at one... |

RE: Another Cracked Limb on my Bowtech Pro 38
bowtech has lifetime warranty on their bows for the original ower so i should be covered. they covered me the last time which was in 2004. but what they did was put 60lb limbs on instead of the 70lb ones i had bought. i will make sure that i get the correct ones this time.
my season starts in 1 month so i will be on the phone tomorrow to see what shop will do the work. |
RE: Another Cracked Limb on my Bowtech Pro 38
That's crazy.

RE: Another Cracked Limb on my Bowtech Pro 38
When it happens once you could call it a quirk. But twice it would seem like there is a problem. If it were me I want some assurance from the company that this won't happen again

Just because I'm that way I read some of your past posts. You make it easy to go back to the first occurance. :DA first glance it looked like there were several more posts here than I counted till I glanced at the dates. Funny stuff.:D
Let us know how this one turns out. Shouldn't be to hard to line things back up. |
RE: Another Cracked Limb on my Bowtech Pro 38
do you have 60 or 70 lb limbs?? and what poundage is you bow set to??
|
RE: Another Cracked Limb on my Bowtech Pro 38
Get some Barnsdale limbs, and be DONE with it!!! Best $150 you could spend ona Bowtech!!! ;)

RE: Another Cracked Limb on my Bowtech Pro 38
when i bought the bow in 2003, i had the 70lb limbs. after the first ones splintered, i got a set of new ones (not sure what poundage) but after getting them home i noticed a crack near the axle after fully inspecting the bow. my wife had picked it up for me and i didn't expect her to find any flaws. after bringing those back, i then again got new ones. only this time the shop or bowtech decided to get 60 lb limbs. well i'm assuming they were 60 lb because i all they would crank up to was 66lbs.
anyways, i shoot just about 63 lbs and i have a 400 grain blackhawk vapor arrow. i had told the shop today (i am using a different shop this time) that i am not very happy being this the 3rd set of limbs in 5 years. and i would have to say that since getting the last new set, i shot only about 500 shots out of it before this incident. that is ridiculous to me that it cracked with so few shots. do you guys think i should call bowtech personally and not let just the shop talk to them? my previous bow, which now is my backup, (1993 proline new wave) has well over 10,000 shots out of it and its still going strong. i actually just set it back up tonight just incase i don't get my bowtech back before the fall bow season. i'll keep you posted. |
RE: Another Cracked Limb on my Bowtech Pro 38
Looking at your 2nd and 3rd pictures it appears thatthe limb pivots (rockers) were left out by whoever made the repairs; this willresult in broken limbs.
|
RE: Another Cracked Limb on my Bowtech Pro 38
i guess i'll have to keep an eye out for that when i pick my bow up next. you wouldn't happen to have a pic of what the rockers are supposed to look like would you (bowtech shooter)???
|
RE: Another Cracked Limb on my Bowtech Pro 38
The photo quality isn't very good but here you go. Without these installed the limbs will without a doubt crack/break as yours did.

Great catch Pat. There ya have it.

RE: Another Cracked Limb on my Bowtech Pro 38
Sounds like a dealer issue to me. Hopefully Bowtech will stand behind its dealers mistakes.

i spoke with my shop today about my bow. he said he called bowtech and they are sending out new limbs and new aluminum rockers. he said something about the original rockers not being made out of alumimun and this is an upgrade for the bow. he said that the upgrade will alleviate the cracking problem. now i just have to wait until they ship out and the shop puts everything back together.

Hope it gets fixed right for you , those pro 38s are such nice bows , in the past bowtech has been very good to me .

RE: Another Cracked Limb on my Bowtech Pro 38
Just looked at my Pro 38 dual cam. The 2nd pic clearly shows that there is no limb pivot in the limb pocket. Mine has at least 1/8" gap between the limb and the pocket. It seems to be breaking right on the edge of the pocket.

RE: Another Cracked Limb on my Bowtech Pro 38
i just got my bow back tonight. i thought that was a pretty good turn around time.
when my shop took the bow apart, the original rocker was in there...even though it doesn't look like it in the pic. the shop guy said that the limb had so much pressure on it that it smushed it. he had said i was real lucky the bow didn't blow up in my face. so bowtech sent out new limbs, they are supposed to be a newer version. they have a different tightening system (where you change your poundage), like the ones on the newer model bows. they also sent aluminum rockers, which they said was an upgrade from the crappy plastic ones that were in it. when my shop guy called bowtech, it seemed like my issue was a common occurance or at least enough happened that they knew that there was a slight problem. so they say this will fix any and all my issues. i hope it does, i really like the bow and how it shoots. kevin |

It's nearly impossible for them to be smashed with the pressure a limb puts on them. |
RE: Another Cracked Limb on my Bowtech Pro 38
I would have to agree with Pat. If it was my bow, unless I actually saw the "smushed" limb pivot the dealer told you about, I would suspect he is covering himself for the mistake he made by putting the limb in without a pivot. They are an engineered, tough material, not "crappy plastic." Not really "smushable.";)

RE: Another Cracked Limb on my Bowtech Pro 38
i would agree with the dealer possibly covering their mistake up but it was a different dealer from when i went in 2004. i am quoting exactly from what the dealer told me. he did show me a rocker, it wasn't smushed in my opinion but was deformed a little on one end. almost pinched on the end. of course i didn't take a pic or take it with me.
so i don't know what he did or what bowtech told him but the new rockers are greenish and are upgrades according to him. on a side note... after drawing back and being at full draw, and looking up at the top cam (its a round cam) the string is not centered, its pulling off to the left side of the cam. is that normal? i don't know if it was like that prior to the dealer but i am looking at everything now. i checked to make sure the axle wasn't bent or tweeked by letting the pressure off the string and spinning the round cam. so any thoughts. thanks |
RE: Another Cracked Limb on my Bowtech Pro 38
You can align the idler by twisting one of the two sides of the Y yoke that are attached to the upper axle.
|
RE: Another Cracked Limb on my Bowtech Pro 38
would i twist the side that i need it to go? for example, if the string is coming off the top cam towards the left side, do i twist the left side yoke cable?

Sounds like it's good to go though. I see your talking pressing the bow to twist the strings, don't blow it. I don't know how others do it but I always turn the limb bolts out as far as allowed before pressing. Much easier on the bow. I don't really want to know but why didn't the dealer set it up right when he had it? |
