Best Glue to Fletch
What is the best glue carbon shafts for feathers and vanes?
Also do you guys you a debonding compound to clean the shafts or do you just scrape off the old glue. Seems some doesn't come off so easily, and using a sharp edge can nick the shafts. Suggestions? |

fletch tape for feathers
lots of glues are good with vanes I scrape carefully and then use acetone to get the rest of the glue off |
RE: Best Glue to Fletch
Definetly use the tape for feathers. GOOD stuff! Glue? Any of the cyanoacrylates (super glue) will work fine. They sometimes leave a white, cloudy residue, but it wipes off.In fact, I've used super glue gel before, and it works well. I wouldn't use acetone to clean carbon, it deteriorates it. Denatured alcohol is better.
There are several commercial vane stripping tools on the market. Saunders and Bohning are 2 that come to mind. |

Loc-Tite has a super glue gel out that is rubber fortified.I have found it to work quite well.

I use fletch-tite platinum. It might be my imagination but it seems to last a long time in the tube.A friend of mine uses goat tuff and it works great but it goes bad before he uses it up.

I'm not saying all that other stuff doesn't work, but I've been using Super Glue Gel for years, no problems.. Cheap too.

RE: Best Glue to Fletch
Tried Fletch tape and like it, but still don't like it as much as super glues. I find it slips a little and also collects grass and other debris if you shoot at small game and it snakes into the weeds. Where it really shines is on removal when you want to refletch. Sure nice not to have to mess with scraping. However, if you use wraps, you may as well use glues.
I like Krazy Glue Advanced regular (not gel) and have recently gotten "attached" (pun intended) to Gorilla Glue Super Glue (not the regular Gorilla glue). The Gorilla Glue has been really, really interesting to use. It contains rubber particles to enhance it's strength for impacts. I have been liking it a lot for inserts and feathers. Seems to be stronger than any super glue I've ever used so far. Cheaper by the oz than the archery specific super glues; that's for sure. |
