Arrow Weight
 

I am shooting a Mathews DXT 27" draw at 65#. Easton axis st 500's. They are 25 3/8 inches in length. They weigh 380 grains. Does this seemto be overspined. It was shooting 270 fps through the chrony today. Ideally it should be around 325 grains. (5 drains per pound).Opinions please.

You definately are not overspined.... infact you are right on the edge of being underspined.... at least according to the charts. They ain't nothing but guides. Are you getting a weak/stiff reaction at all?

And to be quite honest, I think that with regards to hunting the ideal arrow weight should be somewhere around 6 grains per pound if not 6.5 or 7. 5 gr/# is the bare knuckle minimum to keep from voiding your warranty.

270fps is a good controlable speed for a hunting set up. You can still see your arrow in flight fairly easily, and at 380gr.... I'd say yourarrow weightand speed are sitting really pretty.

The spine however... that all depends on your arrow flight... which I can't see fromhere! ;)

Minimally.... Yes.

You didn't say what weight tipyou were using but with a 100 grain tip you are underspined. With a 75 - 85 grain tip you are borderline underspined.
You should be shooting a 400 and cut it to about 26 inches with a 100 grain tip.

I am shooting a 100 grain tip. It comes out to be 5.8 grains per pound.

If your arrows are grouping good you should be fine. I usually shoot my arrows a tad toward the limber side, but Binarys are more tolerant of a soft spine that single cams.

As far as the weight? As has been noted 380 grains should make a very good Hunting Arrow.

Actually too many are shooting too light arrows. I've been there done that, and now I lean more to 6 to 7 grains per # even on my light setups;)
