Bowtech blunder?
At the unofficial GTG, 3 of us we're shooting 3 different Bowtech bows. Guardian, Ally, &Trib. Ea bow was rated as a 70# bow. We used a scale to check our poundage. all were @ 62-63#. All of us cranked them down till they stopped, to see if we could increase our fps readings. We scaled them again, & all 3 were @ 64-65#. I scaled mine last month & had the same reading as this portable scale.
My question is; is it possible that the bows were stickered wrong, & those limbs R actually 60# limbs? I've heard that bows can go over their ratings by a few #'s. A friend of mine said it could be string stretch. Just seems kinda funny that all 3 bows would have that problem. What R your thoughts? |
RE: Bowtech blunder?
String and cable stretch can certainly reduce the poundage of the bow.
The fact that all of the bows are bottoming out at about 65# is not terribly surprising. Many bows direct from the factory don't make full rated poundage due to some initial string and cable stretch. The cables need to be twisted up a bit to get the poundage back in spec. |
RE: Bowtech blunder?
I have yet to see too many shop scales agree, nevermind everyones personal ones. I bet ya its the scale.

RE: Bowtech blunder?
I'd bet it was the scale.

RE: Bowtech blunder?
check yoru scale.....buy some 25 or 50lb weights and lift.....my personcal scale is dead on...
Ibet its the cable stretch....I think new strings can exceed max #, but after a while max will be less. |
RE: Bowtech blunder?
thanks much everyone, I'm going to take my bow to the shop & put some more twists in it. See how that goes.

RE: Bowtech blunder?
I agree indawoods that that scale was probably off. Bloodcreeks Guardian was throwing arrows way to fast to be at only 60 lbs.

felt just right to me :D

RE: Bowtech blunder?
Well I went to my archery shop, & had him weigh it. It pulled 67.8 # on a digital scale. the shop put a couple of twists in & got it up to 69.9#. So I'd say that the scale we used @ the GTG may have been off. Acutally I like the 70# setting. The arrows are flying much flatter at 40-50 yds. BCrik, I'm getting ready 4 U next yr!:D

RE: Bowtech blunder?
Definetly seemed like it was the scale when everyones bows came up the same. I wish that I would have pulled my bow when we were there. I know that mine is at 68.9. Would have been interested to see what that scale would have shown.
