Paper Tuning????
 

When you paper tune, just how far are you supposed to shoot from the paper? I've shot my bow up very close (like two feet away) to make sure arrow comes out clean. Shoots bullets from two feet. I've heard to test it at two distances, but have heard varying distances from different people. I know arrows have a stabilization period. So how far should you shoot so you aren't getting false readings?

Six feet has worked pretty well for me.

Really? The best way is to shoot several distances. Star at about 4' and adjust for your desired tear. Then back up to 10' and see what it is. Then try about 15'. After that the fletching is starting to correct or stabilize the arrow.

I haven't personally found much value in paper tuning at distances beyond 6 feet. Once I get bullet holes at 2 yards, I'm going out to 20 yards to see where broadheads and field points are hitting - then on to walk back tuning and group turning. The six foot paper tuning just gets me there with less time and effort.

Personally, I agree with you, Roskoe. I agree to the point that I don't even paper tune. I like to do it the old fashioned way. Start with a bare shaft at 6' and work my way back to 35 yards comparing POI and flight between bare shaft and fletched arrow. Every once in a while I get lucky and get consistent enough spined shafts that they have the same POI as fletched arrows and all I see going is a nock. However, that doesn't happen a lot with most carbon arrows. They just don't have consistent spine around the shaft. Guess that's why I still prefer ACC's.
