Default Brass Insert size

I'm setting up a set of arrows to be around 500 gr. Yesterday I bought a half dozen 340 Easton Excels. The Muzzy brass inserts are sold in 5/16" and 9/32". Which one fits the Excels? The 9/32" are supposed to fit Axis and HIT insert arrows, but I'm not for sure if they fit the Excels also. Thanks guys.

I'm pretty sure you want the 5/16" for the Excels.

I hope it's the 5/16" because that's what I ordered. If not, I'll just have to buy some new arrows so I don't let them go to waste.

I was wrong. I got the 5/16" and they are too big for the Easton Excel 340's. They fit my Beman ICS Hunter 400's, but I'll be underspined if I used them. I guess I could cut some of the Beman's down, but I'm not for sure how much. So for future reference to anyone who buys these, Easton Excels take the 9/32" Axis/HIT's brass inserts.

The 9/32, at .281".are about right for the 340 Axis and a little big for the 400 Axis - which measure about .263". They will also be aboutperfect for the 400 Excel and a little small for the 340 Excel. The 5/16(.3125") is a little fat even for a340 Excel.

Isn't the Beman 400's with your d/l and d/w going to be a little under spined? I thought the 400's were for under 65 d/w,thought maybe 340 was more to that spec?

All Easton FMJ's, Axis, A/C Super Slims, and Beman MFX shafts take the same HIT Brass insert. The 5/16" Brass inserts are for ICS carbons that are Super nock compatible.

Yeah you guys are all correct. RLoving1 I was underspined with the 400's at 28". I'm going to shorten them up a tad to get them spined better with 100 gr tips. I've got some 340 beman's and easton excel's that I just got cut. I'm adding the 100gr inserts to the beman 340's. Meanv2 you are right on with the shaft and insert fittings. I originally bought the easton excel's with the intention of putting the 100gr inserts in them but the didn't fit. So I went and got a half dozen beman's to fit the inserts. I should be able to get them ready to shoot today.

I doubt there is anybody that can lend much understanding about Women

I'm Lucky and have one that likes the outdoors and could care less about the Malls. That suits me fine!!

She also supports me in my Hunting, and that's even more important.
