Carbon Arrows
 

Quick question, easy answerI hope. Im strongly thinkign about switching to carbon or carbon/alum. arrows this year wether or not I buy a new bow. Im drawing around 60lbs or so and was told id need at least a 400gr arrow. thats the easy part. Now is that 400gr without the 100 gr broadhead or with the 100gr broad head. I know carbons work by spine and lord knowsI dont want to be under or overspined. I wouldthink its 400gr arrow with a 100gr head making a total of 500gr give or take a couple. Would that be right?

IBO ratings are 5 grains per pound, and @ 60 pounds, you will need at least a 300 grain arrow, NOT 400. Not that 400 is bad.....I highly suspect they were referring to spine. A carbon arrow w/ a 400 spine would be great for your set up. But yes, they are referring to TOTAL arrow weight, so nock, broadhead, insert....that's all included.

A 500 grain arrow would honestly be TOO heavy for 60#'s.....

I'll bet whoever said that was relating to arrow spine. Weight can vary a lot depending on which arrows you choose. Anything above 300 gr is good, but most people favor about 350 grains or more.

At 60lb just about anything longer than 27" will require a 400 (.400" deflection) spine.
