C.J. Dead Nuts or Trophy Ridge Nitro Extreme??
I could sure use some input on choosing between
these two sights (Copper John Dead Nuts Pro and Trophy Ridge Nitro Extreme). My bowshop doesn' t carry them and since I don' t know anyone who uses either sight, I' m kind of looking for a little push;). I will be buying for both of my bows(Q2 & FX), I currently have Montana Black Gold' s on them now. I' d like to start using a sight with the circular pin guard, to help with peep alignment. How much does this help? What I' m looking for is a sight for hunting, something reliable and very durable. My MBG sights have everything I want except the round pin guard. I do like the fact that the CJ Dead Nuts Pro is available with .019 pins and has the orange sticker on the pin guard for help with peep alignment. Thanks |

Can I throw in another sight?
Have a good look at the Spot Hogg Hogg-it Hunter. .019 pins round guard white strip for peep alignment. 2nd and 3rd axis gang adjustments as well as single micro adjustments on both windage and elevation. It does cost a little more but IMO they are probably the best out there. Here is a link to a place that has a lot of gear and probably the best prices. http://www.archerywarehouse.com/ |

Hey Two beards1
I have owned both the sights you mentioned and to be honest I no longer own either one. Once you lay your hands on a Spot-Hogg there is no turning back! Do yourself a favor and check them out. |
RE: C.J. Dead Nuts or Trophy Ridge Nitro Extreme??
can' t comment on the cj dead nuts but was thinking of getting it for next season.the sight i will be replacing is the tr matrix.good sight as far as ease of adjustment and low light performance.lacks significantly in the durability department.the pins are extremely fragile.broke my twenty yard pin twice in 2 mos.the first time it snagged my buckle on my knee high boots, second time snagged a treelimb when i lowered my bow from the tree.they did add steel pins for the new line of sights so the durability may no longer an issue.the round pin guards imo will improve your consistency from shot to shot for the mere fact that your anchor stays the same every shot.you don' t have to center each pin in the peep for the different yardages.hope this helps.

The Black Golds are awsome, the Copper Johns are awsome & the Spott Hoggs are awsome. The Triphy Ridge looks very nice too but I havn' t messed with it so I couldn' t honestly say anything about it.
I don' t think you will go wrong with any of them. They are all great. |

Of the sights you mention I would choose the cooper john . I had a Trophy ridge flatliner and did' nt like it it always moved , when you lock down the cooper john its not moveing . I also have a spot hog barebones and like that sight better than the other 2 .

I' m not familar with the trophy ridge but I have the CJ on my hunting bow.. What you should know is the CJ has two series in the Dead Nuts. A hunter and A pro. The pro has the .019 pins and better adjustments. It also has a leveling adjustments. The hunter has .029 pins and the gang and the windage adjustments work together. I think the pro is a better choice. Jerry

RE: C.J. Dead Nuts or Trophy Ridge Nitro Extreme??
Just put on a Trophy Ridge Matrix with .019 steel pins. Round pin guard for ease of alignment with peep, has reflective tape on pin guard for easy pick up, The best part is no tools for adjusting once you have the torque set. But, the windage came loose after about 30 shots. There is the gap that the sight slides in for elevation, and that' s right where I had to set sight. After figuring out why I kept shooting left, reset, tightened it up again. So far it hasn' t come back loose, yet. Will shoot more today to see. The vertical pins are cool. I' m not seeing a major problem there. A longer sight bar option would be nice. I did pick this up as an experiment because so many people have asked about it. I' m not familiar with the Copper John sights, but from what I' ve heard they make quality products. I was shooting a Toxonics Hybrid V w/ 9" extension. Once locked down it didn' t move. I' ll give the Trophy Ridge more time. If it comes loose again I' ll contact the company.

RE: C.J. Dead Nuts or Trophy Ridge Nitro Extreme??
Thanks everyone for the help. I like the looks of
the Spott Hogg' s, in particular the " Real Deal" . One thing I noticed, are the pins exposed on the back side? It looks like they could snag on something and I walk through some pretty thick areas, like multifloral rose[:@]. If the pins are protected better than pictures show, I' ll probably go with this sight. I need to start getting used to it with turkey season fast approaching:). They have a impressive line of sights.....but they seem a little pricey for hunting. I thought $70 for a hunting sight was expensive....$100+? ...one other question. Which sight guard would you recommmend, the small( 2" ) or the large ( 2 3/8" )? Thanks again for the help:). Two Beards/Shane |
RE: C.J. Dead Nuts or Trophy Ridge Nitro Extreme??
Either one of the pin guards will be ok.
But if you want a bigger target window then go for the 2 3/8" one. |
