Waxing your string
Hope this is the right forum for this question. As I said before I am new to this but I was wondering about waxing your string. How important is it? How often should I wax? And are there is there a was that anyone prefers? Seems like at the last local shoot I went to, a couple of guys might have been using what lookied to be Chapstick. Is that acceptable? Thanks

RE: Waxing your string
Waxing your string is important. You should wax it often useing a silicone wax like ML-6 it prevents the string from getting fuzzy looking. When I wax my strings I use a piece of leather to rub the wax into the string real good and I look the string over at the same time.

RE: Waxing your string
Some waxes come in a container that looks like a chapstick container, it was not chapstick.

RE: Waxing your string
Most folks wax their string about as often as they change their oil... and thats why people constantly need new bowstrings.
There is really no set "time" or set # of shots, its is really an as needed type deal. Anytime your string doesn't feel like it has wax on it.... then it needs it. If you are shooting in the spring, summer or early fall... then you need it even more. Heat will suck the wax and life right out of a string. I find myself waxing the string after every single shooting session in the summer time. |

RE: Waxing your string
If target archery is the objective,it is quite possible to overwax.Especially if not using a high quality wax like ml-6 or Daltons.Wax will build up and cause the string to react different on each shot.
For hunting, the elements require more waxing but still not nearly as much as some think.Especially when using a high quality wax. |
