speed of my new bow
i am getting a new bow at 50-55 DW and i am shooting around a 350 grain arrow, what would a est. fps be?
thanks |
RE: speed of my new bow
Too many variables. What bow? Draw length? IBO rating of the Bow? You can't beat just firing it over Chrono and then you know for sure.

ok that sounds good to me.

RE: speed of my new bow
i just added that into a KE calculator off of goldtip's website and it said that i would have only 37 (rounded) foot pounds of KE which isnt enough to kill a deer according to the calculator it should be 40 and up. am i doing something wrong?

RE: speed of my new bow
I think I just came up with 39.7#KE but all this is hypothetical at this point. Your setup would be adequate for Whitetails of that I'm sure. A heavier arrow and higher FOC will give you better penetration on a borderline setup.

Indian's killed deer with a stick, string, and sharpened rock.
I am sure your highly advanced compound bow will do the job, lol. |
RE: speed of my new bow
^ that is true, i was just going by what the calculator was saying.

RE: speed of my new bow
would arrow wraps give me some extra weight that would help?
|
RE: speed of my new bow
wraps would add more weight, but only 7-12 grains. They would also lower your FOC.
Try inserts behind the broadhead to add weight, or try some heavier broadheads. I know you can buy 125 and 175 grain broadheads. These will really raise your FOC and should help w/ the KE. |
RE: speed of my new bow
150 grain broadheads would put you up to 40.31 ft/lbs
175 grain broadheads would put you up to 43 ft/lbs 200 grain broadheads would put you up to 45.69 ft/lbs all of this is rough, it's hard to tell w/out knowing your arrow velocity, I used 220 as a rough guess. Plus 200 grain BH's would put your FOC probably around 20%, depending on shaft length/spine size. |

RE: speed of my new bow
as long as my setup will work good for whitetails i am ok, that is all i will be using it for.
