Fresh Meat to the Archery World!!
 

I finally took the plunge and bought a cheap starter bow to cover all seasons of deer hunting. I bought a Parker Wildfire XP. It's 31 1/4 axle to axle. Set up with a 29" draw and set to 70lb draw weight. I just bought some Goldtip XT Hunter 5575 arrows cut to 29.5" with 4 in. vanes. Goldtip says they weigh 8.2g/in. I also have 125g Muzzy fixed 3 blade broadheads. I'm guessing total arrow weight to be around 367g. Given 5 grams per lb of draw weight, itis recommended tobe around 350 with my current set up. SINCE I'M NEW to this, I'm asking for your opinions like everyone else on my set up. Particularly if my arrow is to lite and I need to step up to the 7595's, if my broadhead is to heavy, if my vanes are to short, etcl. I know i'm going to have to shoot it to see how it does, but just by the numbers and info. given........does it sound like it should be an OK set up???

Well, the spine of those arrows are over .340, so you might can get those arrows to fly good depending on the bow, if it can tune good or not. I might recommend a 7595 if those don't fly good. But, like you said, shoot it first and see.

.......Like I said...I'm veryyyyyyyy new to this. You mentioned spine and it shows the spine to be .400".......with this being a 29.5" arrow it's putting me right on the line between a 5575 and 7595 Goldtip xt hunter.

After reviewing some charts and links on how to tune your bow, I would shoot a couple flecthed arrows then one bare shaft and see how they compare. At 70# you have a lot of room to experiment with and arrow weight not being so critical.
