RE: Shoulder Injury
Don't know.
When I started archery, and was trying ot pull stupidly heavy stickbows, I used to get a lot of shoulder pain. It was never of the type that actualy caused an injury that would have required surgery, but it was painful. In the end I solved the problem by doing a lot of pushups. This is sorta the opposite of the "pullbacks" in archery, and helps ballance the rapid growth in strength from drawing istself, so the whole joint is strong. At the time I was pulling bows that were about 1" too long, and this screws up form, and the overextention seems to make it difficult to be in the back, which could lead to injury. When you aren't in the back, feels like your shoulder isn't well supported, and you may also be more prone to loosing drawlength and having the cam snap you out of the valley. That feels like it could injure the shoulder, though I have always been lucky. I think that one of the most difficult things to sort out properly when one is starting is correct draw length. It took me quite a while to get into the right pocket. Wish I'd had access to some coaching. |
