Handshock????
 

I have only owned and shot 2 bows and I keep hearing "handshock"? What the heck is handshock? Is this energy transfered to your hand when you release?

Yep, that is what I call it. I feel more from the Rival Pro than I do from the hoyt, but neither are as much as my old browning or Darton.

bees, that is what I thought it was, I have never shot a bow that did that, my old bow was a Bear Black Bear which I shot open handed with no wrist strap, my new one is a Browning Ambush XB which has a wrist strap, I shoot it open handed and have never felt any handshock.

Normally you will only get hand shock if bow is not set up properly or you are shooting very light arrows and also if you are shooting a speed bow. I shoot a Parker feather mag II and it has a little hand shock. I also shoot a Bowtech mighty mite and it also has a little hand shock. The Parker is not a speed bow but the design of the cam (I think) lends to a small amount of shock. The Bowtech is FAST and has very little hand shock. Don

Handshock is a fact with all bows, it is just vibration in the grip area. Vibe has been the focus of a lot of work over the last 5 years or so, so it is a much less important than it once was.

Taz, I hear what you are saying. If you have ever shot a bow without a wrist strap and had it fly halfway to the target, then you are probably doing quite a few things right, and you aren't likely to feel much hand shock. But then again if you go back a bit, not everyone used a bow sling. Some of these concepts are from an earlier time, and folks who just jumped the bus in the last 10 years would hardly know what the fuss is about.

If you want to know what handshock is, shoot a 70 pound Jerry Hill longbow with a GoldTip 5575 and the brace height set about 1/2&quot; lower than it should be. When you get back from the dentist after having your teeth reinstalled, you won't have any doubt what someone's talking about when they say 'handshock.'

Hand shock is different with every bow, I would probably say every bow has hand shock, more some than others, but cant say for sure because I havent shot all the bows in the World. Thats why its inportant to get the cerrect stabilizer for your bow. Where is your son stationed at. Tell him Corporal Jerome said stay proud Devil Dog.

These days I feel shock in my elbow more than anything with a few bows I've owned but not with my Patriot<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

Authur, I had a Jerry Hill once. Despite their reputation, I really didn't think the handshock was noticeable. Then again, I shot maple arrows of nearly 800 grains from it.

Ya want handshock? Build yourself you a bend thru the handle selfbow. Leave the tips reaaal wide...mabey an inch so they're nice and heavy. Also leave the back of the bow squared off smartly with sharp edges. Then string it up with a thin string and shoot those light arrows. By shot #6, you'll have formed blisters at the base of your fingers. By shot #12, they'll be oozing clear puss. By shot #18, the blisters will have been torn off. If you make it to shot #24, there will be a steady flow of blood running down the bow and you won't be able to open your hand out straight.

I've actually been there, done that. &quot;Shoots with a Kick&quot; hangs from my bow rack looking pretty mostly. Doesn't get shot too much anymore. Mabey that's why I don't mind what everyone else refers to as &quot;handshock&quot;. :)

I was figuring my next selfbow project would be a bend-thru handle, AK, but I'm going to go with skinny limb tips and a nicely rounded handle. I may be stupid but I ain't crazy. <img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>
