Bow Info and Advice
 

Hey guys. I have a interest in bowhunting next season and i am looking to get a decent bow package for hunting. I was looking on Hunters Friend and they have a Reflex Growler with all the toys for $645. Was wondeing your thoughts on this setup. I also have a Reflex dealer close by at Sportsmans Warehouse where i felt the growler and it fits nice in my hand is is much lighter than the others i picked up. I dont want to get too crazy with my bow setup as i am currently limited to how much i can hunt do to working and my location so somewhere under $700 is pretty much my spending range for the whole deal.

I saw that i need to be fitted for the bowhow does one go about doing this...Should i go over to sportsmans warehouse with the intensions of buying a bow get fitted then buy online?

Any suggestions? Is reflex a good choice?

Reflex makes a great line of bows. You really need to go shoot them and decide what feels best to You. Check out the Diamond line which should be available for you to shoot. Both the Marquis and the Black Ice are Sweet shooters:D

Bad form. You go to thelocalpeople for their help, take up their time to get you fitted properly - which they will do for free - then turn around and stab them in the back to save a few dollars? No.You need their help now to getfitted and you will need their help againin the future. It pays in the long run to establish a good relationship with your local dealer, even if it is a chain store. Buy from them, if possible. I'd bet they have the same or similar package on their rack.

Besides, once you figure in shipping and stuff, a lot of the internet deals aren't really that good.

I also agree with MeanV2. Check out the Diamond line before buying. I've never heard of the Matquis but the Marquis is pretty nice. ;)

I agree with Arthur, I had kind of same situation where i had gotton like$300 dollars in gift cards to cabelas which i used for a new bow but theonly problem was i live 135 mile from the closest cabelas. Now if i need something fixed at the local shop i have toalmost hang my head in shame beings i didnt purchase it from them.Dont get me wrong I've spent several hundreds of dollars there but I still dont feel right bringing in a Cabelas bow. But they still help me out just the same.Istill cant figure out why when you ask for money for x-mas people have to get you gift cards instead.

I picked up a Reflex Growler in October from the local pro shop in Canon City. Was looking for a backup bow and it felt real good. Light. Nice balance. Shoots real well too. But I only paid $390 for the new 2007 bow with a TT drop away rest and a decent sight. $645 is no deal. There are so many 2007 bows on sale right now for what must be dealer price, you can surely get a much better deal.

645 is everything from hunters friend...Arrows, case, ect ect....

Thanks for the advice guys im gonna try to deal with my local shops around here...I dont think sportsmans warehouse around here has diamonds on hand but ill check!

I think the Bowtech Tomkat package bows are close to your price range.

That $645 is a pretty good deal, but at the same time, if you shop around, you may be able to get a similar deal, all the while keepingYOUR $$$ in YOUR community. As others said though, you may want to go shoot one to make sure you even like what you're ordering. That's another nice thing about buying from the local pro-shop, a LOT of them will get that bow set up to YOUR shooting, not some "Hooter Shooter" bow shooting machine. My new stuff comes from my local pro-shop, used from where ever, and they understand and accept that. I also send them a LOT of business, including a buddy that's probably spent $10K there in the past 3-4 yrs.

Well im gonna dissent and say buy from hunters friend, i would look hard at the Bowtech rapture package $525 bucks out the door, shipping is free, and thats with everything you could possibly need. Plus they paper tune the bow and get it shooting 2" groups @25yds.

I recently went to my local shop, and the guy was pro Matthews, but i was interested in Bowtech and Diamond. He had some attitude, and i could tell that he thought i knew nothing about bows, he pretty much down played Bowtech and Diamond. If you do some research you can easily find out how to do some basic tuning, which every archer should know.In 15 years of bow hunting i have only gone to a shop once with my bow, i set it up and do all my own work.

How many people go car shopping, test drive a vehicle, then shop price? Yeah i know its a lot more money involved but does any one care about that dealer that spent the time???? Even if you have to bring the bow in for some work, the shop is still making money, so its not like your taking adavantage of em, to each their own, but hunters friend really has some great packages and i know where im probably gonna buy my next bow.
