I just use a box like the size of a tree stand. Cut out a window on the front and back, tape some paper on it and your ready to go.

I have been using some would I slapped together but this year I am going to make one out of 1" pvc pipe. The idea I have in my head is using a bunch of 2-4ft sections with some elbows and t-joints. That would give me 4ft legs and a crosspiece joining them, then4ft riser off of the legs to a t-section. That would give me a crosspiece for the paper roll. Then 2ft risers of of that and a crospiece for the top. If I don't glue it together then I will be able to take it apart and store it in a small space.

What would you use to keep the paper taut at the top and bottom?

I am thinking off using some clamps at the top but I had not thought about the bottom (where the roll will be). I guess you could go two ways here though. Just tear off a long sheet and clamp it at the top and bottom or add in a string/cable above the roll that goes from side to side and tape clamp to it. You can get many types of clamps at the same hardware store you get the pvc pipe but in reality I guess you could use tape and just tape the top and bottom of a sheet of paper to the frame.

I used an old wood ladder with the whole about 1' x1'. And I just stapled butchers paper over the whole.:D

I got 4 2X4, and made some legs, and made a box about 24"X24X, and some supports, and thats it. I use wrapping paper and secure with masking tape.

I made an target hanger a few years ago out of 3" PVC, only glued one side of each elbow and 45" T that I used. I made a basic box out front, then made a 45 about 3/4 the way up, and brought that back to a support coming off of the lower legs of the set up, similar to a soccer goal, but the bottom was encased and the top went a little hight above where the side back supports come in. Worked very well, for the buddy I made it for, and pretty light and portable, which was really what he wanted. You could easily use 1" and make one that should meet whatever your needs are.

I used 3/4" pvc, real simple. some elbows and tees. I used 1/2"pvc for the paper roll. If I get it out I'll take some pics..
