Want to fletch my own arrows - question.

I noticed a bitz fletcher on the shelf at the proshop and since I wanted to start re-fletching my own arrows I asked the owner if it was right helical. He said no - left helical. He says that everyone in my area uses left helical and they don't even carry right-wing feathers. He said it was just an "area thing".

I asked why left instead of right with the risk of broadheads loosening and he said that wasn't a real problem. I've heard person after person on this board and others say right helical is the only way to go.

What is your opinion on left vs. right and on what my proshop guy said? Is there any reason why I wouldn't want to buy that fletcher???

As for as accuracy goes there is no difference even if you are left handed. There might be a diffence when the arrow hits a target or deer and spinning one direction and it will loosen the point a little. Other than that just make sure what ever clamp you get you can get the same wing feather.

We use the Bitz with the left wing helical clamp. My broadheads tuned so nicely with 4 inch feathers it was unreal. I just fletched my arrows for league with it two weeks ago. We use AAE 2 7/8&quot; vanes for league. Beautiful job compared to the AZ Easy fletch we used to use. Why did we pick l.w. helical? At the time they only had l.w. or straight in stock.<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

First of all you can order any fletching tool you feel more comfortable with either left or right from a catalog, or on the net.
I've asked the same question at the three nearest pro shops to me and got the same answer: &quot;doesn't matter, just make sure your broadheads are nice and snug.&quot; I've read the same thing in books and magazine articles.
I happen to use right because thats the tool I have.

It makes no difference at all....none. I always shoot LW just because we have a Jo-Jan 6-arrow fletcher with 6 LW clamps. At school, sometimes I bring up our 1-arrow fletcher. I bring a RW and LW clamp, just to make sure I can get the correct wing fether.

Good Luck!

I fletch left-wing because my broadheads (Rocket Aerohead Miniblaster) have its blades canted to the left; therefore, the spin imparted on my arrow helps the blades &quot;bite&quot; better.

I seem to keep coming back to using my straight clamp with an offset on my Bitz. It gives me the best clearance through my arrow rest prongs while still giving me good flight stabilization.
