Help with my drop away

I have a Trophy Taker Shakey Hunter. The other night at my indoor league I noticed I was getting a green color on my rest, I have a green blazer cock feather so I knew it was hitting the rest. I rotated all of my nocks and this aleviated the problem, no more clearance issues, much better arrow flight.

Today I got thinking, this rest isnt working properly then is it? If a drop away is working right, the fletching shouldnt even have a chance to contact the rest because the rest should be laying flat by the time the fletching get there. Am I thinking right here?

If so, what do I need to do, lengthen the cord from rest do cables or decrease?

It could be possibly bouncing up after it hits the shelf, or just not dropping fast enough. By rotating the cock vane up and fixing the problem, I don't see any need to mess with the timing of the rest.

I have to ask, when you say "cock-feather, hitting the rest," are you shooting a cock-feather down??? If so, that could be part of the problem.

If not, then yes, the rest may not be getting down quick enough, and you need to lengthen the cord. If you rotated your nocks, and you're getting good clearance however, I'd leave it where it is. The longer that arrow rides that rest, the better off you are unless you get contact, then it has ridden too long. But if you can get that arrow to ride the rest until the milli-second it comes off the string, then you have perfection, which is how and why they were designed in the first place.

That's the way I read that too.

Cock feather should always be up on a drop away for clearance purposes.

It may or may not be that the TT isn't dropping fast enough but it could be. Another possibility is that your too low on center shot, ie the arrow sits too low on the string and rest. You should be crossing your "Berger" holes and I usually try to cross them in the upper half depending.

Just a thought.

All my arrows are now cock feather straight up, and thats when I noticed the noticeably better arrow flight. I tried the foot powder thing and I dont seem to be getting any contact now. Sounds like I should leave well enough alone, thanks guys.

As Rob and I both said, Cock-vane up is the way to go on a drop-away rest. Sounds like you got that set up now, if it's shooting well, then don't "FIX" what ain't "BROKE." I sure wish it would warm up a little here, I'm afraid to shoot my "FROZEN" targets for fear of busting arrows.

Amen Doug, I need to sight in the General to further distances and it's so cold...I know put my big boy pants on and get out there right but after working all day in it, the last thing I want to do is shoot in it. Think warmer weather Doug. Good luck.
