Beman ICS arrows
 

I'm shooting a 2002 Hoyt Magnatec with ZR200 limbs and versa cam. #60 draw with 29 in. draw with a 100gr. muzzy 3blade. Will ICS camo hunter 400's work? Or what do you recommend. I went to the website and it said 400's, but I have the Archery Program and it says 300's. Thanks for help.

Using the Beman charts, I am right on the line between the 400's and the 340's with my setup. I have heard that it is better to be a little overspined than to be underspined so I chose the 340's and they seem to shoot pretty well. Plus, they are a bit heavier than the 400's which means a quieter shot.

titleist_03, hey I just picked up a new set of 990 irons!

I shoot 29" draw, at 65lb. pull, and use 100 or 125 gr. heads with excellant results using ICS 400`s. If you want more total arrow weight, then go with the 340`s, but the 400`s have way more than enough spine for your setup!

I got a set of 990's 2 years ago. I wouldn't play any other club. They were tough getting used to but I love them now. Ok now back on the subject. BIG COUNTRY when you say they have way more than enough, is it that bad to have WAY more than enough. Most of the things I've heard is overspined is better than underspined. How much of difference are we talkin between the 340's and 400's? I'm not too worried about the weight. Right now I'm shooting nearly a 500gr. setup. I figure if I drop 50 gr. or so I should still have enough KE for whitetail and I'll gain quite a bit of speed.

Back to the bemans. First, I was doing alot of assuming when I said that the 400 series were more than stiff enough. I am guessing that with a 29" draw length, you are shooting an arrow in the 28-29" range.

Most carbon arrows cover a much wider spectrum of spine stiffness than do aluminums.
And, you are correct in thinking that too stiff is better than being underspined.

I must confess that it has been ages since I even looked at a beman arrow chart.
I have setup in the neighborhood of 75-100 hunting bows with ICS 400`s, so I have a pretty good feel for what they can handle.

I have shot them out of my own hunting rigs for 5 years now with excellant results.

4 years ago I shot ICS 400 field arrows(same as hunters only lighter per inch) at 28" long with 5" feathers, using a 125 thunderhead out of a high country fourrunner at 302fps., and they were stiff enough for that combo. Arrow weight was 370gr.

This year, I shot ICS hunters at 28" with feathers and 4" vanes with 100 gr. mech., and 125 thunderheads. The arrows weighed in at 383gr. with 100gr. tips, and 408gr. with 125`s.

I would have to drag up a beman chart to give you a weight on using the 340 series arrows, but they would be REALLY stiff for your setup, unless you are leaving your shafts extremely long.

If you used ICS 400 series hunters with 100 grain muzzy heads out of your bow, assuming the bow is tuned properly, you should be shooting an arrow in the 385gr. range about 260-265fps. This would translate into about 57.5-60.0 ft. lb. of KE. More than enough to go through the biggest of whitetails.

So you're saying I'm gettin over 260 FPS with only 60# draw? The 400's are 9.5 gr./inch. So with a 29.75 in. arrow that comes out to be 433 gr. with a 100 gr. broadhead.

Do you know what a bow's performance factor is? I downloaded the Archery Program and it come out with a 1.289 PF. Just wondering what that number is and how they come up with it. Thanks for the help.
