Mathews Icon????

I would appreciate any and all feedback on the Mathews Icon. I'm really thinking of buying one. I love the nice smooth draw!

BOWFANATIC - it is an awsome bow. I have one for 3-D & Indoor & it is a first class bow. very little hand shock, quiet, smooth, and a pleasure to shoot. for hunting I tend to still like the Q2XL a little better but the Icon is the real deal if you want a great bow ffor paper punching...it wouldn't be bad at all for smacking deer either!

Thanks OB! Just curious , why dont you hunt with the Icon? The specs are pretty close to the Q2XL minus a few fps. I've been having problems with my shoulder lately and figured I would try to find something for both hunting and 3d that draws smooth. I cannot find a more smoother drawing bow than the Icon. It shoots great also! The only thing I dont like is the grip but I can customize the stock grip.

One other question , I've heard alot of talk about Mathews limb pockets , their new and improved for 2003. Is this something I should be leary of? Should I purchase a 2003 Icon for this reason? I could probably get a better deal on a 2002 but I wont bother if this is a big deal.

oh the 2002 & 2003 Icon are the same. The new pockets are on the LX & Conquest 3.

You might want to check out the new LX before you buy, I thought it was a really smooth shooting bow.

I had one for a brief time.

Pros: The quietest bow I've heard in years, Super smooth draw. Very accurate.

Cons: Felt "clunky" i.e. didn't balance well for me. I've heard some folks say they got good speed out of theirs but I never could(not that it was designed for speed anyway). Like all Straightline type cams the valley is too sensitive for my tastes.

Personally I think the Rival Pro was the better bow for the application it and ICON are geared towards.

In September I ran across two guys hunting elk with the Icon. One of the guys owned a bow shop so he could shoot whatever he wanted. they both loved the bow.

That is a nice color! I have the Kiwi & it is a sweat looking bow. It is simply awsome!

fust an FYI - my setup is as follows & tunes really easy. For 3-D I am using the carbon express 200' s (29" @ 65lbs) with a insert & 75 grain tip with 3-D duravanes. For indoor I am using 2512' s with 125 grain screw ins & they are 30.5 inches long with the new 3" 3-D duravanes. Both setups tuned really easy with my fall away and theyalso tuned really well with a standard launcher rest too!

Good Luck with the new bow!

I shot with Justin Martin, Matthews pro and he uses one and he finished high last year. I also saw Legendary indoor shooter Dean Pridgon shooting one in indoor tournament. With guys like this shooting them there bound to be good bows. Not the fastest bow.

ORION
What brand Fall away are you using. I am curious as to what will work with the roller cable guard.

HV Bowman

Currently I am using a Golden Premier Fall Away with the FT launcher. There are several models that will work with this bow. Mathews currently has a fall away version of their rest and Trophy Taker is another that will work with these bows. The main thing is to use one with a cord attachment. The Mathews, NAP, GKF, Trophy Taker, etc. that use the cord attachment will all work. The Trap Door would also work too.

Experiment & try various models, see what you like the best. Some really like the guard on the Mathews rest while others really like the micro adjustment of the Golden Premier.

Good Luck on your search!
