RE: How is my form?
I have to ask again. Where is your anchor point for your release arm? If your pulled all the way back, how do you follow thru a shot?
My take again is 1" or more too long draw. forearms isn't lined up with the arrow. It looks like your gripping the bow. Could be wrong. |
RE: How is my form?
I agree with BC atleast an inch too long on the draw, shorten up the release, stop choking the grip and never draw the bow without an arrow loaded.
|
RE: How is my form?
how do i stop choking the grip and would i have to buy a new release?
|
RE: How is my form?
my anchor point is where my nose touches the string.

RE: How is my form?
It depends on what release you have some you can shorten others you cant.

RE: How is my form?
The release is still too long you should have the trigger in the second knuckle not on the finger tip at will only result in punching the trigger.
The new pic of the grip you still have too much palm into the grip you want your fingers down and away at a 45 degree angle. |
RE: How is my form?
draw lenth is atleast a inch too long...release is a little to long....try and grip kinda like the guy showed you in pic(only want index and middle finger wraping handle of bow)...also you need to bring your left arm up alittle more so it is level...also having a arrow when drawing back is not a big deal just dont shot bow without arrow!!...
one other thing is practice, practice , practice the new way... try and fix a few of these and take new pic...and we will help some more |
RE: How is my form?
ok i will try gripping the bow with my index and middle finger and bring my arm up, i cant get the release any shorter, and i asked the guy at the proshop last time a went a few weeks ago and he said it cant be anyshorter, but even though it is alittle long it is comfortable to shoot. i will post a pic later tonite right now i am someones house, i will try at around 9 ish i should be home. thanks for the help.
|
RE: How is my form?
by the way i had my left arm down because i was aiming down when i shoot its normally level the way you said it should be.
|
RE: How is my form?
if i had a wrist strap would it help me with gripping the bow better?
|
RE: How is my form?
well when you aim you want to bend more at the waist.....you want that arm and form to be the same....try and only dip that arm if you have too....as far as a wrist strap..i dont think it will help more it more acts to steady the bow in the arm. i dont use one
|
RE: How is my form?
what is your email i will send you a pic of my form...tried to post it but i am not smart enough...lol
|
RE: How is my form?
[email protected], and what exactly was bad about the way i grip the bow? i am alittle confused about that. and even though my DL is alittle too long and my realese is atlittle too long too can i still go hunting or will that affect me that bad, because my groups are still pretty good.
|
RE: How is my form?
because i was lowering my arm the more i think about it when i shot, would that affect my acuracy as far as consisitency goes?
thanks for all the help. |
RE: How is my form?
when you hold the bow with your whole hand it moves your arm into a bad position and you will not hold the bow the same every time you shoot..
|
RE: How is my form?
if ya cant get a new release that is shorter than i guess just use what you have...it will work but you will punch the trigger more and that = less accurate
|
RE: How is my form?
ok i was wondering thanks for clearing that up for me.
|
RE: How is my form?
lowering the arm will affect your angle of shot more than at the waist...your doesnt line up the same as when level with the sight
|
RE: How is my form?
will a cheap release from walmart that is shorter work for this season and then after season which is soon could i just buy a better one i already know which one i want just cant get till after season i dont have alot of money to spend.
|
RE: How is my form?
i gotcha bout the arm thing i will work on these things when i get home and i have another release i just thougt about it but it is kinda old, it is shorter, the thing is it has a strap type thing like a back pack strap and when i tighten it it loosens a bit, type it is you hold on to it so i guess i will try using that and i would use that when i put the new picture up and tell me if it is still to long.
|
RE: How is my form?
cool sounds ood...sent yo uthose those pics

RE: How is my form?
The release you have can be shortened but you might need a little supervision.
I have done it and it is very simple. The nut at the end needs to be removed and then you can pull the release apart and the rod should be exposed. All you need to do is cut the rod with a hax saw(start with a small amount)and then use a vice and just put a new bend on the end. Then put it back together. You are definately long on draw. You need to try to get closer to this. ALso notice how the knuckle is over the release, much easier to execute a shot without punching. You will notice I have more palm than the previous picture but I have small hands as you probably do.I can shoot this way with little to no torque. The way pictured is painful to me.But I do rotate my forearm out and you should try to do that. ![]() |
RE: How is my form?
looking better!!! though that extra draw length is not letting you bend that left arm out some
|
RE: How is my form?
Draw length is a bit long. About an inch.
|
RE: How is my form?
Tfoxso can i hold the bow like you if i dont torque it i dont really think i was because i was just putting my fingers there and i wasnt pressing with them on the grip. i really dont feel right when i have a couple other ways.
|
RE: How is my form?
should i just cut off the bent part then re bend it?
|

RE: How is my form?
You might look at the Short N Sweet release, or something similar - where the bowstring is held very close to the trigger. And tie the shortest string loop possible. This will get your anchor point further forward without actually increasing the draw length of the bow - although the draw length of the bow looks about and inch too long to me as well.
|
RE: How is my form?
it might feel uncomfortable to hold it the other ways...i felt weird to me too but my accuracy got alot better...after awhile it will become comfy to hold it that way..you got to train the brain
|
RE: How is my form?
ok, and how would you bend your waist when your sitting in a blind or would this be a thing where you would use your arm?
|
RE: How is my form?
lol....practice and you will find out.....when you are on the ground sitting you will be more level will the deer
|
RE: How is my form?
true.....
|
RE: How is my form?
Even though I don't hold exactly like the picture,I am more like it than not.I do keep the grip on the thumb side of the life line,I just have a lower wrist style than the pic.
I also turn my wrist and forearm (not the elbow) like the pic and from your pic,it looks like you do not, that can cause torque. |
RE: How is my form?
o ok i gotcha.
