Suppose you have $300-$400...

...to spend on a new to you bow. Only criteria is fast, quiet and forgiving :)

New? Used? What would you consider?

Trying to narrow some choices down for my brother-in-law...

Well, for that kind of money you could probably get some of the 2002 "high end" models on Ebay or you could go with some of the mid-price range bows currently on the market for 2003.

If this is an upgrade or a "new to the sport" type decision then I would probably opt for one of the 2002 "leftovers" as the person will be getting a top-dollar bow for 2/3rds of the cost.

In that range you could get any number of bows. You could get a good top-line model that is slightly used for $400 easily. Today almost every bow company out there makes a great product. My top choices would be perhaps a Mathews Q2, Mathews Solocam, Bowtech Generation 3, Bowtech Extreme Solo, Jennings Buckmaster. Also, look into PSE and Hoyt. All these companies make great bows. Although you could find a new bow in that price range, I would suggest buying a used bow that is top of the line as opposed to a middle of the road new bow. Just my opinions.

Hey Bob, at that price I just might turn loose of my Hornet and get the Machette.

That's funny, I was seriously thinking about getting a 30" draw module so he could shoot mine :)

I'll keep that in mind though, I want to see what the show brings, there should be a glut in the used bow selection on e-bay soon thereafter... :)

Rangeball you may want to look at a new browning, that is what I just got and I love it. It is not the fastest bow in the world, but it is fast and for less than $400 you get bow, stabilizer, quiver, sights and wrist strap.

I'd go with a Darton. They've got some really good bows for right around $200, this leaves you some extra cash to pick up some extra goodies like arrows, a quiver and if you're into it a release, or a stabilizer ect. But that's just my .02.

An Archer likes to see how far he can shoot his arrow. A Bowhunter likes to see how close he can get before he has to shoot his.

Hmm...for a new bow

Bowtech Stalker or Blackhawk
Hoyt MagnaTec
Martin has several bows in this price range.

I have 2 high end like new bows on ebay right now for a minimum bid of $350, wanna take a crack at them? <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

I'm shameless.

I would check on classifiads at archerytalk.com. Ebay might have a good deal or two. Check your local proshops and find good used bow.
