new string break in ???

Was shooting sat and noticed my string starting to fray a little. went to pro shop to get a new one... anyway. this is my first sting replace been bowhunting for 4 years. when I get the bow back on wed. or thurs after peep and nock are straight is there anything else I need to do while re-sighting. ALSO... I know the string will stretch but how many shots will it take to get the stretch out and how much will that affect performance?

How many shots does it take for the string to settle? Depends on the quality of the string. If it's some generic string off the shelf or a Zebra it may never quit creeping. If it's some decent aftermarket string like Bucknasty's then 20 shots or so should settle it in.

Then again you may get lucky and it'll work itself in in about 200 shots.

Just be sure to keep it well waxed. Like BG said, a good prestretched string of quality fiber will only take about 20 shots to be settled; as quality goes down the amount of creep goes up but most off the shelf strings will settle within 100 shots.

The proo at the shop I go to told me after 100-150 shots with my Zebra twist to bring it back in so he could put a few twists in it.

Without knowing the brand, I would say at least 150 shots...

With Zebras one trip back won't be enough unless you happen to get one of the rare good sets.

OK thanks guys ... Just spoke to my pro shop guy and he said that i had an odd length string like 80 3/4 i think and he said it could take 3 weeks to get it in however he spoke to the bear archery folks(i have a bearbow)and they said they can have an 80 1/2 string to him by tomorrow and there is some adjustment he can do to make it work right..... does this sound legit?

He could put it on with fewer twists and then twist it back up when it creeps to the proper length. Shouldn't be a performance problem but you'll have some peep rotation issues to deal with.
