Can anybody help with my F.O.C issues
Hi all,
I am shooting a Mathews Drenalin at 65lb and 28inch draw. The arrows that i am using are ST Epics which are 28inches long aswell. I have a lot of 100g 3 blade muzzies that i would prefer to use but my F.O.C is low at only 8.1%. I really want to keep using the muzzy broadheads and would love anyknowledge shared to be able to use these and have an F.O.C of around 12%. Any ideas on what i should do other than increase broadhead weight?? Thank you for any help given, happy huntin. |

There are only two ways to increase FOC. Add weight to the front of the arrow ot take weight off the back. So, switch from vanes to 4" feathers to take weight off the back. To add weight up front, put brass washers between the broadhead and insert. Be carefull with adding the weight up front because it can force you into a different spine class arrow. Experiment with it.
Don't know if you'll be able to reach 12%, but you'll get at least 10%. |

I shoot 28 in Beaman ICS Hunters, 2 in blazers, Muzzy Phantom 220 grain @ 266 fps total arrow weight 540 grains, with 21 % FOC. This week end, I shot a 6 point doe:Dthe entrance and exit hole was about the size of a silver dollar. He went 45 yards and dropped. Perfect setup for me. BTW. I am drawing 62 pounds. |

Gold Tip makes weight tubes that thread into the back of the insert.I've installed them on arrows that have the inserts already installed. Just remove the nock and use a long rod with the end filed down to fit the allen head. They come in multiples of 20 grains each. I'm not familiar with diameter of the epics, so I'm not sure if they would work for you or not. I think it's a good idea to use medium threadlocker if you use them, so they don't come rattling loose. I put them in my arrows and increased my FOC and overall weight (for elk hunting).

FOC will increase slightly by shortening the arrow. For instance an arrow that is 27" long will have a higher FOC with the same tip as the same arrow that is 32" long. Most people don't leave their arrows long enough to shorten, but if you did, then shorten it. A shorter arrow will act stiffer and can handle more weight on the tip. Adding weight to the insert will allow you to stay at the same spine and increase FOC a fair amount. This assumes that your spine was exactly what your setup needs to begin with.

Can you give a few more details ie fletch type and size, the spine rating of the arrow and if you have wraps on them also what nocks are you using and if you have a uni bushing.

Lot of good suggestions here. Shooting Broadheads it really is best to keep your FOC at a minimum 12% to 15% It may take a little work and seem like a pain but it is worth it;)

I am using 4 inch killer vanes, no wraps, not sure what sort of nock and no uni bushings. Icould shorten my arrows to 26 inches safely enough and try blazers but my calculations still say my F.O.C would be just under 10%. My arrows are rated with spine stiffness of 0.340 and 9.5 grains per inch. Do you think i might be better off going to the ST AXIS 500's that are only 8.1 grains per inch and a spine stiffness of 0.500? I just dont want to under spine my arrows and the nearest proshop is over 3 hrs away. Any suggestions?

Our specs are identical , I shoot 65 pounds and 28 inch arrows also , this year Im shooting axis FMJ arrows , and 125 grain fixed heads , Ive uped my arrow weight , and foc , and am shooting better than ever . Im shooting 340 spined arrows
