Wax build-up on Cams

I have a string wax build up on my Cams , will this effect the flow of my bow ?

What is the best way to get rid of it , with out scratching the groove in the cam ?

Doesn't hurt a thing, IMO. Actually, I intentionally wax the servings around my cams to lube them and keep 'em from wearing as fast. If it bugs you, just wipe the excess off with a paper towel and run a q-tip around the track.

A good way to get excess wax off the string is to get a piece of fast flite(dental floss may even work)and put the fast flite on the string and pull on it while sliding it down your bow string. This will get the excess wax out of your string and still keep the string waxed enough

Jim, i read that tip on here before, maybe you....just wanted to say it worked. after a while the wax builds up and gets all nasty lookin...the dental floss took it right off!

I just wax my string. I don't worry how pretty it is.

If you overwax your string,it may not perform as well as it should or last as long as it should. Also, too much wax will rob your bow of fps(for any speed freaks).Too much wax will also attract dirt, grit and other abrasives that can be harmful to your string.Wax it when it needs it

Well, I figure the dirt and debris remain trapped in the wax on the outer surface of the string and never gets into the string itself. That grit can easily get into the string if it's dry and unprotected. And I don't care if wax snags a fps or two off my speed. It saves me money, allowing me replace my strings and cables half as often as the dry string speed freaks have to.

I wax to excess, but I don't let excess wax accumulate on the string. Even though it's old fashioned and considered passe, I still use the little leather pad. Wax, briskly rub the string/cables with the leather to warm up the wax and burnish it to a smooth finish. The excess wax comes off onto the leather.
