Fall Protection, Body Harness???
 

Sorry for the poor post yesterday. I was looking for info on full-body harnesses to protect against falling out of a tree, not fall away rests. What brand & style do you like? What are the good and bad points of the ones you use? Thanks Bob

When it comes to safety I dont spare anything.
I want the best I can get. I have heard too many stories about people falling from trees it actually happened to my hunting buddy last season he was lucky and only got a couple of broken bones.

I have the Seat Of The Pants safety harness it is not cheap but what price is your personal safety

I use a saftey belt instead of a harness, I feel its less restrictive. And as a bonus makes a great a great dragging tool across the open terrain such as IL crp fields.<img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>

I use a full body harness. It goes around my chest and legs. If you get a full body harness, get one that does NOT grip around the groin area. Some of them do, and personally, that is restrictive. The belts that just go around your chest are cheap, but they can actually injure you if you fall from a tree. Think about, your hanging by a rope from a tree, and you have a safety belt gripping around your chest. Good luck in finding one. SAFETY FIRST!!

Spend the $ and get the best. I've Fallen out numerous times( perpetually sleepy:)) and went with a better model than the old &quot; clothesline around the waist&quot; kinda harness. You can't hunt if yer dead...

Get something nice and something that you will wear.

I get to take classes for work about fall protection.

Wear it snug but not too tight 2 fingers should just be able to get between the straps.

Make your anchor point as tall as you can, will help prevent you from generating more energy in your free fall till the fall arrest system starts to work. Also can prevent you from hitting the ground if your not too far up in the tree.

Invest in some trauma relief straps if the harness isn't equip with them. ($10 or so) If you fall and can't get down you have about 15 minutes till bad things start happening with the blood pooling in your legs. If you do fall and hang for a little bit, don't take off your harness right away. Allow some time for your blood to start flowing normal again or you can overwhelm your heart with non oxygenated blood.

Wear your leg straps, failure to do so and you most likely will slip right out of the harness in the event of a fall.

You don't have to spend an arm and leg to get a high quality safety harness. The ones that come with the treestands work just fine as far as keeping you safe but many of them can be a pain in the butt to put on and aren't always all that comfortable.

As soon as they come in this summer I will be looking hard at the new tree spider harness from Robinson outdoors. Supposedly they are gonna come in around $100 retail for the speed harness.

who are going to live forever, or at least maybe forty year, need to spend as much money on the heaviest body harness as possible.

Us older competing hunters need you to haul that extra weight on your body, to balance the scales.

I wonder; do the Marines have a new training regimen of 20 mile hikes with full body harnesses?

I use the SOP. Works great. Haven't tried others.
