Blazers/Bitz

Two quick rookie questions that have probably been addressed over and over....and I did do a search but found varying answers (shocker, right?)

I plan to switch to blazers this season and also want to start doing some of my own fletching/fletching repair.

1. Ihave aWB rest on my XT...I'm assuming a 2% offset would be optimum (that's what I currently shoot), but have seen some posts saying helical through the WB is fine.Any recommendations?

2. I was looking at a bitz jig in Cabela's, and see they come in straight and right and left helical. I'm assuming if I want my fletching offest, that the straight jig can be adjusted to do that.

Thanks a ton.

You are correct, using the straight clamp, you can offset your vanes.

Also with the blazer vanes, you wouldn't gain anything by using the helical clamp.

This response is half right......You can offset them w/ a straight clamp.....

And you DO have something to gain by using helical clamp. Just because it's only a 2" vane doesn't mean the degree of helix isn't the same, it's just not over as long a distance....It will add spin and stability to your arrow......

When fletching the Blazer vanes, add a little glue to the front tipand the rear of the vane. This should help with the durability of the vane as well.

Yep, mobo is right, the helical will still improve flight, even though it is only a 2" vane.

An offset will work as well, but really, you might see some improvement with a helical clamp.

I currently am using the Bitz with a straight clamp (as that is all I have). . .I would try helical if I had the clamp.

That's just good advice no matter the vane....;):D

Bols, don't you have some new hunting land to go find or something??? :D:D

I didn't mean to belittle anyone's intelligence......But that's what I do for a part time living as well, and I've noticed that it makes a difference....

All I've got is a helical clamp because, while I use a combination of feathers and vanes on my wheelbows, I have a decided preference for arrows with helical feathers on my stickbows. My Blazers work just fine done in helical.

You are correct, using the straight clamp, you can and should offset your vanes.

Also with the blazer vanes, you wouldn't gain anything extra by using the helical clamp as opposed to using the straight clamp with an offset.
OK, let me rephrase myself (see above). If you want to use the helical clamp, have at it.
