I was in the local bowshop today trying to get replacement limbs/cams for my bowtech. Anyway, as I was waiting a customer asked what weight broadhead should he be using. The tech told him it was just personal preference and did not really matter. I didn't speak up but I thought of a few answers he could have given him such as increasing KE or the fact the correct weight could fix a weak/overspined arrow. It just made me wonder how many guys get crappy answers to their questions in there.

The funny thing is that I would almost believe that if I wasn't on this site so much.[8D]:D

I sort of agree with him, I don't use broad head weight to fix any of my problems. I pick a broad head I want and go from there. I can always add weight to the arrow or insert instead.

I doubt he told the guy that though.;)

What I find is a good dynamic bow setup and arrow combo, it won't matter much. But a bow setup where the arrow spine is on the edge, it will. I have seen guys, including Len on here who has like 3-4 different broadheads mfgin thier quiver and they all hit the same POI. (I figure it was cheap samples he gets as a dealer cause Len is cheap.:D). just kidding len.

Recently, I have done alot of playing with a bow trying to get it perfect. I shoot bullet holes thru the paper with 100gr or 125gr tip. The 125 of course dives quicker past 25 yards, but both are shooting well. Which I am kinda glad cause I am going to CO in Sept to elk hunt and want to use 125gr BH's.

The guy isn't that far off with what he told he customer. I've always prefered 125 gr heads and know people that have always prefered 100 grain heads. He builds his arrows around that and I build my arrows around my preference.

However, sometimes you need to go to a lighter or heavier tip to go along with your arrow selection and length, DL and DW.

I think you're right. He probably didn't mean it that way. Tip weight can be a huge factor in how an arrow flys or penetrates. Casually dismissing it, is completely wrong in my view.

Now, now.... It's old school to say anyone is wrong about anything. Nowadays there are only varying degrees of rightness. [8D]

While I agree using 85, 100, 125 gran broadheads is a matter of preference the above statement, leads me to think that the tech either did not care to help the cutomer more appropriately, or lacks in competency.

My guess is all of the above. Most techs I run across know just enough to get you out of the store. I stay away from them. I don't buy from them, ask them questions or order from them.
