I need advice on fletching arrows
This is my first time here.:) I've been reading a lot of the posts and I appreciate your advice and help you give. I dip and crest my arrows. I have used aluminum shafts up till this past year with feathers. I switched to carbon shafts with vains. I also switched to a WB rest which I love. I now glue my vanes on with a the fast setting gel instead of fletch tite but I have had a problem with my vanes riping off because of the WB rest. Am I using the wrong glue or what? I prep my dipped shafts with denatured alcohol - can't use asetone because of the paint. I use an arizona E-Z fletcher. Oh, I also dab a drop of glue on the front and the back of the vane. Got any tips?

What vanes are you using? I have used both Duravanes and Arizona plastifletch with the fast set gel and a WB with no problems. If my be the cresting paint not allowing a proper bond? I also trim one side of the rest, which allows a bit easier passage for the arrow.

RE: I need advice on fletching arrows
The problem may be in the bonding between the dip paint and the glue you're using. And using a WB rest will really put a lot of stress on the fletching mount as it goes through the rest. You might have to try switching adhesives to something else, and put a line of glue down the ENTIRE length of the vane, not just a dab in the front and back. That leaves the entire middle section loose and helps "leverage off" your front and back glue dabs.

Thanks for the advice. I think I just need to keep trying different glues to see what works best at bonding onto my dipping paint.
