whiskers, leaches or lizards?

I recently had a custom string made and installed by a local shop here in town. My old string had some limbsaver leaches installed and when i got my bow back with the new string installed the were some 2$ whiskers installed. When I asked for my leaches back he said that he chucked them in the garbage and that whiskers are better anyway. I paid around $12 for those leaches, I did'nt want to make a big deal about it because this guy is good friends with my father in law.
Should I stay with the whiskers, buy new leaches or those martin string lizards? Or does any of this even matter?

I agree with the fella. Whiskers are not only a lot cheaper but work just as well and are far more durable than leeches. If they're installed properly, you'll wear out your string before they need to be replaced.

I dont know about anyone else but i use leeches and would never go back to whiskers! I dont think there is no question here as to what is better IMO!

But hey shoot your bow can you feel any difference or hear any difference between the whiskers and what you had on the bow before?? If not keep em on!

Not to mention they look much better on the string, esp.. if you dumped ome money into a nice looking custom string!!

the leaches i had was junk, they eventually flew off my string, i found one and not the other... and after they came off the bow sounded exactly the same

Yarn puff balls or beaver balls for me. If I couldn't use either of those I would probably use whiskers. Leaches work and are more durable than they used to be if put in right, but are just too expensive for me when there are other things that work as good or better for less money.

I don't like any of the rubber string silencers because you can hear this whipping sound when you let the string go. With the yarn or fur ones you don't get that noise.

If the difference is minimal between the two I will have to go with the leaches. I just don't like the way that the whiskers look, there kind of oldschool.

Having to pay up to 14 times the cost for an item that does no better at it's job than the inexpensive one, and has to be replaced FAR more often than does the cheap one? Just because it LOOKS cool?

I'm glad I'm not a fashionista. I couldn't afford it. :D

Damn right, im not that pressed for cash. I have a brand new bow with state of the art equipment and some old school whiskers that look like they cam right out of 1985.

I'm sure the industry appreciates you and others like you a lot more than they do old school pragmatists like me. Whatever wrinkles your prune, bud. Go for it.;)

Arthur were talking about $15.00 not $150.00. Thats like saying why would you wear such a nice shirt to church when your 10 year old tank top has never failed you.

That IS funny. Har, har, har.

After you've spent 150 bucks replacing busted string leeches, I'll still be using the same set of whiskers I got for a dollar on the sale rack. That's more than enough to pay for a whole dozen ACC's!

edit: From Simms Q&A page in reply to the guy wanting to know why his leeches break after only a couple hundred shots.

Our String Leeches® are made from our proprietary NAVCOM™ (Noise and Vibration Control Material), which is the best material on the market to silence your bow and stop string oscilation. It is a pliable material, however, and it will wear down and break. Although many target archers enjoy the effects of our String Leeches®, they were primarily designed for the hunt and are not expected to last longer than needed to tune your bow and take down your trophy animal. For more information on the LimbSaver® String Leech®, read our technical article, “The Who, What, Why of String Leeches®” by our tech support guru, Shawn Coulter.

I have a set of puff balls I have been using for over 5 years, on two different bows. Still work as good as the day I bought them, actually a bit better maybe.

Of all the goofy ass looking things on my bow my old school silencers are the least of my worries;).

I actually think the beaver balls look pretty cool myself. I put some on my girlfriends target bow. They are not real cheap though.
