Figuring out arrow weight

What do you guys do to figure out arrow weight? Say if i wanted to buy a Beman ICS hunter arrow which is at 8.4 grains per inch and i want it trimed down to 27 inches. I assume you multiply 8.4 times 27 and get 227 then add 100 for the field point to get 327. How much would i add to 327for blazer vanes and a nock point to find my total arrow weight?

Well, 2 inchers weigh 5 grains a piece and 4 inchers weigh 12 grains a piece. I assume you are shooting stock nocks so they should weigh 7-12 grains. This gives you a grand total of about 394-399 with 2 inch vanes and 415-420 with 4's. Sorry I couldn't find the exact weight for the beeman nocks.

I would be more concerned about the spine than total arrow weight.

If you like I can run your set up through Archers Advantage but will need the bow info ie draw weight, your draw lenght, make model etc

That would be great Ausie. I'm shooting a Ross Cardiac with a 27 inch draw and 60lb draw weight.

Hope thats enough

Don't forget to add another 10-12 grains for the insert.

OK AA came up with a finished weight of 371gr's using the 2" Blazers the FOC is 13.6 but the spine is all the way over into the red on the stiff side.

Even with a 125 head it is still showing as too stiff.

Now with the lenght cut to 29" 100gr head it is showing slightly stiff, 388gr's with a FOC of 12.9

Now if you want to get the FOC up there go with a 200 gr head cut the arrow at 28" for a total weight of 479gr and a FOC of 21.1 and slightly stiff on the spine, I would prefer to be slightly stiff than slightly weak when it comes to spine.

Thanks a lot Ausie! One more question though. If my spine is to stiff should i think about getting Beman ICS 340 over the 400? The 340 comes in at 9.3 grains per inch with the 400 at 8.4.

Thanks

the 340 is a stiffer spine than the 400

Sorry so i guess that means i should also look into the ICS Beman 500 at 7.3 gpi?

Hey AUSIE if he went to say 64lbs or so in draw weight would'nt that help with the stiffer spined arrow too.
