Finally able to start shooting again got some ????

Hello,
While I'm new to this board, I'm not really new to archery and bowhunting. My Problem is my bows (2 recurves and 1 compound) have been sitting in my mother's basement for the past 20+ years. I'd like to get my compound (a Darton Huntsman purchased in the early 70's), set up to shoot again anyone here know other than the string what should I replace? I don't remember what poundage the bow is, also this bow is one piece all wood limbs and riser. Should the bow be safe to shoot? The recurves both seem to be in real good shape as does the Huntsman, one is a production bow with all info still on the bow, the other is a kit I built and again don't remember the draw weight. I'm looking to get to a pro shop as soon as possible and get all 3 checked out. I'm also interested in getting back into building my own arrows again. Any advice or tips from the nice people here would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Vudoochylde

You should probably take your bows to a dependable Pro shop if there is one in your area to have them checked out. Look for delaminations or cracks in the limbs and new strings for sure. Just because your bows are old doesen't mean they will not be fun to shoot. At our state's anual jamboree we see lots of older bows in the hands of very good shots and hunters that take lots of game each year. I would suggest to stay with heavier aluminum arrows instead of carbon to keep the stress down on your bows. There are lots of great new products on the market that make archery and bowhunting more enjoyable than ever. Good luck.

Any one here from the SE CT area or maybe RI? I'd really like to find a good pro shop here. I had a couple I used to be able to trust when I lived in MI. But since I haven't lived there since 83.

Thanks,
