Getting String Changed

WellI decided its time for a new string this year. Im shooting a PSE Nova that I bought brand new about 5 years ago, and its still shooting the factory string. Im going to save the old string for a back up as its still in good condition. just had it reserved last year. Im wondering what kind of strings most of you recomend. I cant afford anything overly pricey, maybe 45-50.00 max so I looked into Barracuda Zebra Strings. Has anyone used these and how well do they hold up. I will be putting my kisser, peep and ultra noc back on the new string along with leeches.

My feelings about Barracuda strings can't be posted on a family web site. Check with Gibblet right here on HNI. Great strings at a reasonable price. Just shoot him a PM.

I'll go along with that. Gibblet makes great strings and about as reasonable as you'll get for the quality. Just a tad more than you suggest, but worth every penny. I too, am not overly fond of what I've seen from the Zebra's. Seems most that have them and know what they are talking about seem to say that they never quit creeping, which means poor constrtuction techniques. And way over priced for what you get.

RE: Getting String Changed

yeah, for the price you're looking at i think you'll only get a zebra string - but i could be mistaken. for a little more i'll make the entire set. now, whoever you buy from - i'd say its way past time to get a new set - and remember just how that bow shoots. heck, if you've never had a quality set on that bow, you may be surprised just how well that bow does shoot.

RE: Getting String Changed

The bow shoot good but I dont think its shooting as good as it can. Dont get me wrong my patterns are pretty tight but could be better. Im hoping a new string will help do the trick. I cant even begin to count how many arrows have been shot off that bow since I bought it. I know the pro shop im going to carrys different brands of strings so Ill have to see what they have. They have a good reputation and they havent tried to push anything off on me that I dont need or want. This will be my bows first time to another pro-shop other than the one I bought it at since the shop burned down. So Im a little nervous. It like taking your baby to a babysitter you have never met. Ive talked to girl that works there and she seems to be very very knowlegable and trustworthy. Is it normal to be nervous when going from one pro shop to another?

Gees, get a guy around a woman and his knees buckle. Believe me there's nothing to get nervous about. She won't bite.

Trying to save a buck on a new string would be the last place I would want to cut corners. Drink a cheaper beer for awhile. Skip haircuts for a few months. When it comes to tires and bowstrings, spend the money for quality stuff. I have personally had good luck with Winner's Choice strings.

I just had a Winners Choice put on my BowTech. I didn't realize that I had a lose broad head in my bow case and it done a number on my string. One thing about the Winners Choice strings is that they are NOT cheap.

You can spend more money but you can't get better strings than the ones gibblet aka BuckNasty makes;)

Well I took my bow over to the pro-shop yesterday on my lunch break and wished Ida stayed in the office. First they opened up late soI cam back and went back after lunch then they were open, 25 minutes later than what they haveposted. Well then I ask the girl if she could put ona new string on my bow, well I pull out my bow so she can look at it and right away shes like you shoudl take this off your bow, take this off, put this on etc. I wasnt oo happy, then when she pulls out her tub of strings, which I might add there were very few strings. She doesnt have one for myNova. Shed have to roder it and it would be another 3-4 days! But after the lecture she gave me about what I should put on my bowand take off Im kindagun shy now and may not ever go back. I was not happy with the service at all. I may stop at Fox's Archery off HWY 13 today on my way home and just goin andtalk to them. Ive never been there before but Im running out of options unlessI drive extra half our and go to Marshfield. I dont know whatto do....ive only dealt with two proshops really that have worked on my bow one is no longerthere and the guy in town just pisses me off but he does good work but i dont want to give him anyof more of my money after he hung a deer that came from our property and went on hisandwouldnt let us goon his land to get it. it was a monster and should be hanging on the cousins wall. HELP!

Just curious, but what was the girl telling you to remove from your bow. Take it for what it's worth, but she may be totally correct. Many people have a lot of "stuff" on their bow that they could get along without---and especially "stuff" on their strings.

RE: Getting String Changed/UPDATED

Just curious . . . like what? I'm running string leeches, a G5 peep, a kisser button, and a string loop. Also some serving where the string contacts the STS. Any of those things you consider to be a waste of time?

Drive the extra half hour to Marshall, that is assuming that you're talking about little Jon's. Jon's good folk, and definitely worth the drive.

Roskoe, relax buddy. It wasn't an accusation. Just a question.. Sounds like you're about average. I don't use a kisser, but you're string isn't overloaded.

I was just curious, that's all.

Wis, as has already been stated on here, order your string and cables from Gibblet.
I have an SQ2 that is 5yrs old and replaced the original string and cableswith one of Gibblets sets.
My pro shop was so impressed with his string, that they keep asking me who I got it from every time I go back in.
Not to mention that the bow shoots so much nicer, that I have changed my mind about buying a new bow.

If you are talking about RApids, i would go to Timberline. Have Jeff put it on for you. I just did the same thing and he did a great job. I would also add that the Gibblet string is the way to go. i could not be happier with mine. Took about 3 weeks to get, but worth the wait. I've only shot a hundred shots or so, but so far it has not moved at all. I was thinking my draw was too long, but after I got the new string, my pull was 5/8" less, so my old string had stretched that far. As a result, I shot my best score in 3D all year, a 272 out of 280, so i would say I'm happy with it.

See heres the issue. My Nova is an older Nova so it has the lead string holer things, not sure what they really call them. Will he be able to make one? Im sure he could. But again theres the cost thing, I cant really afford an overly expensive string. lets see some pics, costs, etc. I cant remember the legnth on my string, I can measure it andpost it.

Gibblet, what do you know about "no creep" (non-Dacron) strings tearing anchors off of steel cables? I've heard of this when fast flight strings first came out but haven't heard or seen any problems in years. (Most likely due to the rarity of steel cables these days.) But just to be safe I only put 450 strings on these rigs.
